(Reuters) - A doctor will have to be present for any drug-induced abortion in Missouri starting on August 28 because Governor Jay Nixon on Friday allowed a measure passed by the state legislature to become law without his signature.
Nixon, a Democrat, said he decided not to sign the law and made no further comment.
The law applies to the so-called "abortion pill," RU-486 or any other abortion inducing chemical.
Missouri will be the 11th state to require doctors be present for administration of the drug, which is allowed up to about nine weeks of pregnancy, said Elizabeth Nash, state issues manager for the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-choice research group.

(11,330 posts)Doctors should be required to be present whenever a gentleman uses a little blue pill.
Yes it will be inconvenient and a little embarrassing.
I'm sure the doctor would have to charge a lot more when he subscribes the medicine if he knows he has to be oncall all the time when his patient might use the little blue pill.
But its really important that we take adequate care of gentlemen's health.
Can't cut corners when it comes to safety.

Perhaps each pill should have a serial number and be accounted for by the doctor that purchases them.

I think it might be wise for a doctor to be present to at least consult the patient on the possible, and probable, side effects (although I guess an experienced nurse would do just as well). These aren't Tylenol. They are fairly invasive as far as drugs go.
