George Zimmerman family calls for calm

George Zimmerman family calls for calm as protesters gather outside court

“As we await a verdict we will remain hopeful and ask for the public to remain peaceful no matter the outcome. Though we maintain George committed no crime whatsoever, we acknowledge that the people who called for George’s arrest and subsequent trial have now witnessed both events come to pass.

“We hope now that as Americans we will all respect the rule of law, which begins with respecting the verdict.”

They're obviously being meticulous since they asked for an index of the evidence (which there is a lot of) and will be going through everything. Just that alone is going to be time consuming. I would expect that they'll be deliberating at least a couple of days and more if they all aren't on the same page. Besides, this isn't just about guilty or not guilty, there's a number of various charges. Even if they all are in agreement on guilty it then becomes a matter of guilty of what charge. I don't believe at all that he'll totally walk. I can't understand why anyone would believe that.

that concept alone has a hint of racisim...I just heard Melissa Harris-Perry of MSNBC speak on the "race riots" concept imprinted into our society...Always associating riots with black culture as if that is what black people do when they don't get their way. She makes sense.

I do not anticipate any discord from Martin supporters following the verdict...There may indeed be an underground style gun culture backlash. They will be pisst when Georgie gets cuffed.

Melissa Harris-Perry is missing the point a little, I think. I do not believe that blacks are just naturally more prone to violence than whites, but without more peaceful means to vent their anger, violence, sadly, is a possibility.

in America these days to pair riots with black culture, "race riots".. That indeed is depressing.

I prefer to think of black culture in terms of the peace march, sit-in protesting and boycotts. The term "race riots" seems to take position #1 out of the lot of demonstration formats our American black culture has successfully utilized.

Maxine was only explaining the history/background behind the LA riots as that was the public issue then and needed a voice to explain the behavior from the participants perspective.

Is that the same law that says that big banks and big bankers are too big to prosecute? The same law that says that contracts entered into by unions in good faith with management can be broken without consequence for management? And the same law that says an unarmed teenager can be gunned down by a vigilante without consequence?

I could go on, but hopefully you get the picture. The "rule of law" in a bourgeois society is what the rulers SAY it is, no matter HOW many people disagree.

So, the government will not prosecute criminals therefore we should kill our fellow humans? Well put. So now you stomp your feet and say "they did it first." The sad thing is, if there are deaths and property destruction, you'll be safe far away.

perhaps to get the judge and prosecutor to
be lenient with sentencing.

I read that only the prosecutor, presuming the
DA, can waive the mandatory minimums.
The judge must abide by them otherwise.

He could conceivably get 25 to life.

Probably the family will be on their best behavior
until sentencing, if he is convicted.

Just doing what the lawyers told them, probably
reading a statement written out for them to say.

But what I meant was that fans of Zimmerman may
pay attention to what they said, just because that's
the way fans are.. they look to their heroes for wisdom
and advice.

Therefore, it's not a bad thing that they did
this. Maybe one lunatic fan won't start a riot on
that account.

I know the law in Florida is different with the Stand Your Ground law but I can't help wondering how this case applies to that.
Trevon did not break into GZ house, he did not come up to GZ with a gun, a bat, nothing.

The kid was doing what any kid anywhere should be allowed to do and that is go to any store he wants to at night in the rain with
his hood up and come home alive.

I'm sure GZ will be not guilty because I have not much faith in jurors, these days.
It just makes me sick that this jerk took it upon himself to be God!!! He even more or less said that. It was God's way and what is he
an apostle.

I am just sick what Trevon's parents have had to go through. No parent should have to be put through this crap. When you have the police telling
GZ to stop right there that tells me the guy was quilty.

I don't live in the USA and where I live you have to have a permit to own a gun and it has to be in a locked cabinet in your home. There is no walking around with
a gun or in a car. Do we have some murders here yes we do, mostly drug and gang related, besides that not many.

"For months, Justice Department personnel known as 'peacekeepers' have been working closely with black leadership in Sanford, Deland, Orlando and even Miami advising or instructing them what to do, say, and act in reference to civil rights activism," he said.

"For months, they have pushed the ideal that leaders must continue to say, 'let's have peace' as if a racial spark is ready to ignite the community.

"Therefore blacks, except for a few rowdy kids and crews, are too afraid to radically protest."

Are they saying that for months they have been infiltrating, monitoring, planting a seed? "As if a racial spark is ready to ignite the community..." What exactly are they doing and saying? Are they inciting? Entrapping? What? I do not trust the government when they infiltrate civil rights activists' groups.
