Keith Olbermann is back

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/07/17/1224450/-Keith-Olbermann-is-back

He's reuniting with ESPN and will be hosting a new late-night show beginning on Aug. 26.

The new show "Olbermann" will generally air at 11 p.m. ET weeknights on ESPN2 and is expected to be a mix of perspective, commentary, interviews, panel discussions and highlights. The hourlong show often will follow live events and run opposite of "SportsCenter" on ESPN. It will be based at the Times Square studios in New York City.

Olbermann has a long history with ESPN. He worked for the network from 1992-97, but the split between the two sides was acrimonious. Olbermann went on to work at NBC, Fox and MSNBC, where he hosted a prime-time political news program. He returns to ESPN in a new role that he and ESPN president John Skipper have discussed for several months.

"Apart from the opportunity to try to create a nightly hour of sports television that no fan can afford to miss," Olbermann said in a news release, "I'm overwhelmed by the chance to begin anew with ESPN. .......

I'll bet it's got more riders than Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show....

I'll bet it's got a "Fire at will" clause.

Yes, at times I thought he was an arrogant asshole but I have an appreciation for him that will not go away, he spoke out when no one else did, because of his commentary on George Bush, done at a time when no one else on-air dared to speak out against the appalling things being done and said by Bush and his administration.

Congrats, Keith!

He's an arrogant asshole that KNOWS he's an arrogant asshole. Doesn't mean he's always wrong by any stretch. He'll be the first to tell you when he went too far, or was a jackass. Beats the hell out of the "never been wrong" assholes. It just makes ya wish that maybe he'd learn. But no, he'll just do it again.

Now that he is back where his first and still greatest passion is (imo), sports, I have little doubt he will put his foot in his mouth there as well, on occasion, hopefully not in a way that will get him canned.

Generally there is a no-compete clause in a contract for television personalities. That means you can't build up your show on one channel then switch to another and take your following with you.

If that were the case, Olbermann couldn't be on any other channel except Current until a specified time had elapsed.

Can't remember where I saw it.

Not a sports fan, so probably will never watch. Hardly ever missed "Countdown" when it was on MSNBC, though.

If he says something like, "He stole second like Nixon stole documents", then he could be fired?

Talking about giving up your right to free speech!
