Not Very Christian Of Them

"Remember when Republicans whined constantly in 2009 and 2010 that the Democratic majority was trampling their rights? Remember when they complained about majority rule and used their minority in Congress to obstruct any and all bills? Remember when they referred to majority rule as tyranny when Democrats controlled the House, and still do because Democrats control the Senate? Well, conservative Christian pastors in Tennessee are doing an about-face to force God down the throats of every non-Christian in the state, and they are perfectly willing to violate the Constitution to do so."

*In February 2013, the county commission of Anderson County in Tennessee voted 12-4 in favor of inscribing the words ‘In God We Trust’ on the outside of the county courthouse. Just this week, the first of what will be four signs carrying the phrase was installed. According to Raw Story, “each granite plaque weighs 170 pounds and has the words “In God We Trust” in gold leaf lettering.”

The decision of the county commission and the unveiling on Tuesday has divided the county. Christian pastors, however, are telling non-Christians and the ACLU to go to hell. Raw Story reports that local pastors are invoking majority rule as an excuse to ignore and justify the violation of the constitutional rights of non-Christians."

...everywhere they go.

Private billboards along highways aren't enough, no, they need the government to propagate their theology as well.

Let everyone know who's boss.

"Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

These Christians are just setting up a situation where they can be "persecuted" by having their holy words removed from some public place, either that or they get to put them in everyone else's face.

A win-win for them.

GOP stands for God's Own Party. It started with Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson. They organized churches to run candidates for the precinct level Republican Party delegations first in a few states. In the 1988 Michigan caucus for president this paid off for Pat Robertson, although there was claims of skullduggery. (This was in the midst of the transition to primary election based nominations.)

Since then, the theocrats have gobbled up the vast majority of the delegate positions in the Republican Party. Once you have the precincts, you have the districts. Once you have the districts, you have the state. Once you have the states, congrats! You own a national party.

That's what the religious right have done. And it's what the tea party is doing, although they are intimately part of the religious right as well.

People here complain about the Democratic Party being not liberal enough. Well, what the Christians did for the Republicans, us liberals can do for the Democrats. But that takes some work because it has to be done from the bottom up.

If you want change, run for precinct delegate and take over the party.

and there are no more homeless people in Anderson County? Apparently so, since they have all this money to spend on gold leaf plaques.

Because you know what Jesus said about feeding the poor and graven images.

And btw, fuck the conservative non-Christian pastors in Tennessee.
