Ecuadorian President Questions Role of OAS

Guayaquil, Ecuador, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) President Rafael Correa questioned the role of the Organization of American States when opening the 12th Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of our America (ALBA) Tuesday.

Correa asked the attendants to the Summit and the Latin American and Caribbean peoples to analyze and question the OAS, and asked how the irrational fact that its venue is the nation which is maintaining a criminal blockade to the island of Cuba, can still be supported.

Correa recalled the blockade against Cuba openly violates 50 percent of the articles of the OAS Constitutional Chart, and the blockade has been condemned in 21 consecutive years by the United Nations General Assembly with an almost unanimous support of the member countries.

Correa considered the revision of the Inter American Human Rights System another priority, since the changing processes cannot be broken by actions such as the use of international corrupted centers for arbitration or judgement.
