Drop a poison pill in there to stop Republicans for signing off on it (for SS and C-CPI he wanted a poverty exception). In this case closing the loopholes and implementing a massive jobs program ain't happening.

Of course, he did compromise on health care with regards to the public option.

So you can't rule out him giving them more than he gets.

Of course no one around here actually pays attention to the details and the numbers and the effects of shutting down the loopholes he is talking about shutting down, like having a minimum tax on stashing away money in foreign tax havens.

He has been proposing this for a few years now, and its actually a great trade off. Large corporations are gettting away with fiscal murder and his proposal addresses that. Nothing is getting passed anyway, but if it did, that would be the end result.

It's actually laughable that anyone would think the proposal, with the details we know, is anything the Republicans would accept.

Of course details are prone to change and I wouldn't put it past Obama to drop various things we've heard about it so far (closing loopholes, reinvesting the massive revenue that we'd get in exchange, etc). Ironically, the Republicans are saying it would hurt small businesses, those same businesses who really can't hide their money overseas and exploit the loopholes. The same businesses who are actually paying the real corporate rate (see Table 26).
