SC Republican Party Regrets Email That Compared IRS To Gestapo

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/sc-gop-if-anyone-was-offended-we-regret

The South Carolina GOP on Tuesday responded to backlash it received after sending out a fundraising email that compared the Internal Revenue Service to the Gestapo.

“The State Party sent out a fundraising email earlier with a subject line meant to grab the attention of those receiving it," Alex Stroman, executive director of the South Carolina Republican Party said in a statement to TPM. "If anyone was upset, we certainly regret it. Our goal was to highlight the IRS's questionable tactics and their decision to selectively scrutinize and target certain groups, including those in South Carolina.”

After the GOP included "Obama's Gestapo" in the email's photo and the subject line, the state's Democratic Party condemned the comparison for "equating its political opponents to the Nazi police that oversaw the imprisonment and mass-murder of millions of innocent people."

Typical right wing non-apology: "IF ANYONE WAS UPSET, we certainly regret it." They are just whipping up the base, and wouldn't dream of looking soft by actually apologizing.

The rest of the letter was asking for funds so the party could continue its fight to "expose and abolish" the IRS.
