George Zimmerman Stopped By Cops Still Packing Heat

George Zimmerman is still armed and theoretically dangerous ... he was stopped by cops for speeding and revealed he had a gun in his glove compartment.

Zimmerman was speeding in Forney, Texas on Sunday, just after noon, when he was stopped by police. Zimmerman told cops he was headed "nowhere in particular," and informed them he had a firearm in his glove compartment.

Zimmerman was given a warning, after cops determined he was free of warrants. He was sent on his way with a polite goodbye, "Have a safe trip."

The stop lasted around 5 minutes.

Sounds like he was speeding and got pulled over for speeding. So he fit the profile of a speeder, but I don't think that's what you meant.

To look at it another way, take the speeding part of it out lets just say he was stopped for "profiling" ..and you're saying you're glad that happened??? I'm pretty sure the point is to eliminate profiling period, not keep it around but only use it on people you don't like.

Thanks for the welcome. I comprehend just fine but choose not to make the same distinction. To me being opposed to something but glad it happens to somebody else (even if they might have earned it) diminishes the position.

Lucky for us, it seems it was his speeding that drew the attention of police and not "profiling" so we can let this fall by the side of semantics.

Of course if you're going a lot over, have been drinking or have an attitude, you're going to get a ticket. GZ loves cops so I'm sure he was quite complementary to them.

I get stopped all of the time in Texas with my Florida plates. About 1/3 of the time I drive on I-10 through west Texas I get pulled over. Always for bogus reasons. I've only had one ticket in Texas, and that was for going 10 mph over the speed limit. I was only going 5 mph over.

The speed limit on I-10 in W TX is 80, how much faster do you need to go? We've been pulled over going 5 mph over the speed limit in W TX but like you just got a warning.

It's hard for an officer to see everyone's plates when cars are whizzing by at Mach .5. Does FL not require front plates?

on a rare time I was on I-20 near Pecos. If I remember right, I was going 70 mph in a 65 mph zone, just like everybody else. The officer lied about my speed.

They tend to pull up behind me and hesitate before they flash their lights to pull me over. My last trip west through west Texas, last year, I got pulled over after he followed me for a couple of minutes. He fabricated an excuse to pull me over, based on something I allegedly did after he started following me. I told a passenger shortly before this incident that there is a good chance that I would get pulled over, and when he started following me I said it would happen.

This year I drove through Oklahoma instead. I got pulled over in eastern Oklahoma on I-40, which has happen to me three out of four time I've been along that road. It was allegedly for having a frame around my license plate. The officer did tell me they were out trying to find drugs. Florida plates are a good target.

When I first saw the title I thought guns were illegal in Texas, since Zimmerman was said to be "caught."

What's next? People being "caught" walking their dogs and wearing clothes?

* White drivers were more likely than both black and
Hispanic drivers to be stopped by police for speeding.
Subsequent to being stopped for speeding, blacks(78%)and
Hispanics(85%)were more likely than whites(70%)to receive
a ticket.

http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/ascii/cdsp02.txt

In 2002 whites, blacks, and Hispanics were stopped by police
at similar rates. Specifically, each group represented
approximately the same percentage of stopped drivers as they
did of drivers in the United States. For example --

* whites were 76.2% of U.S. drivers and 76.5% of drivers
stopped by police

* blacks were 10.5% of persons who drive and 11% of stopped
drivers

* Hispanics accounted for 9.7% of drivers and 9.5% of
stopped drivers.

Drivers of other races were a smaller percentage of stopped
motorists (2.9%) than of the driving population (3.6%).

Driver gender, age, and race/Hispanic origin

Young white male, young black male, and young Hispanic male
drivers were all more likely to be pulled over by police
than their older counterparts. Each of these groups of
younger male drivers was a larger percentage of drivers
stopped by police in 2002 than of the U.S. driving population.

Whoever flips out about the cop not giving him a ticket or arresting are the ones who have absolutely no idea how frequently cops do what this cop did.

Why not just say, "I have no idea whether what this cop did is outside the normal or not"?

Hey Rex, What has the research you've done shown?

I've never seen someone get so bent out of shape over a news report. Why are you so mad? Did you take this personally in some way? The burden is on YOU, since you offered up stats that no one can see! Seriously enjoy your stay here...maybe you can actually contribute something besides a link that leads to a pay for site!

Most people get tickets for speeding...so sorry to burst that tiny little bubble you live in.

Cops can go either way but tend to favor white people, rich people, and famous people if they like them for some reason.

If the cop had given him a ticket folks on the right would be yelling he was targeted and there are lots of other speeders.

For me, in this case, would depend on how fast over the limit and the 'real' reason he was pulled over (I was pulled over in KS for going over the line, after talking to the officer a bit and explaining I used to be a cop he admitted he pulled me over because I had out of state plates and a car rental and he was checking to see if I was hauling drugs as that was the MO of many dealers running through that area).

Cop may have used it simply as an excuse (speeding), to check out other suspicions he may have had, hard to tell.

Let's see the data please. When people who are stopped are not white, do they not get warnings most of the time? (or the cop does nothing, too). Proof please.

Wed Jul 31, 2013, 07:34 PM
Jul 2013

I recall exactly ONE warning, and it was a university police officer, not a city cop or highway patrol. All the other times I've gotten tickets. I'm a white woman. I hardly think I'm unique.

Clearly the cop favored Zimmerman. Like the rest of the gun totting racist trash in this country, they like the fact he killed a black person. That's who Zimmerman defenders are.

...it's probably illegal to NOT have a gun your car. Shit, it's probably illegal to have a car, instead of a truck. And if you drive a hybrid, that's probably getting you the death penalty.

I kid. I'm in North Carolina, and we're not exactly covering ourselves with glory right now either.

I bet you more have me on ignore. You know what? I don't give a shit that they have me on ignore because they don't appear to be the type that can negotiate their way through a tough fight over ideas. Ignore is the domain of the weak willed, IMO. BTW, I often disagree sharply with you, but I often read you stuff and sometimes post.

....would you all still think that was funny? Would it be funny because he looks hispanic (profiling, anyone)? Would it be funny if he got thrown in jail, even though he was still an American citizen!?!! Pretty funny stuff, huh?

For what it's worth, I actually do think that would be pretty funny.

It might have been sweet justice if he was told to get out of the truck and stopped and frisked.

Check out Forney, Texas, the suburb of Dallas. There's no Interstate there. From the looks of the picture he was on US 80. Zoom in; there's lots of turns on and off the highway.
