Kisha Curtis, owner of Patrick the pit bull, pleads guilty to animal crueltyA 29-year-old woman charged with abusing Patrick the pit bull whose rescue from the bottom of a trash chute in Newark sparked international outrage and hundreds of Facebook groups pleaded guilty today to animal cruelty.
Kisha Curtis appeared before Judge Joseph Cassini III in Superior Court in Newark and pleaded guilty to one count of animal cruelty, a fourth-degree charge, acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray said. Curtis had been scheduled to go to trial Wednesday.
Curtis, who now lives in Irvington, faces up to 18 months in prison. However, authorities said Curtis probably wont serve any jail time because she has no prior convictions.
She will be sentenced by Cassini on Aug. 29, when the judge will also rule on an ongoing custody battle for Patrick.

It was in March, 2011 when Patrick, a reddish brown pitbull, was starved and dumped down a Newark apartment building trash chute and left for dead. At barely 19 pounds, the emaciated dog was brought to the Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls and nursed back to health. Patrick has made a full recovery and is now being fostered by Patricia Smillie-Scavelli, the administrator at the vet hospital. There is an ongoing civil suit between the City of Newark and Associated Humane Societies, which claims custody of the dog. Patrick will remain with Smillie-Scavelli until the legal matter is resolved. (Video by Andre Malok / The Star-Ledger)

There are a few VERY graphic seconds in the middle of the video. So graphic that I instantly teared up and my heart started pounding...and it was only a few seconds.
Who is the animal? Patrick or Kisha?
