Don't make a memorial out of the old house. But build a park. WTF kind of park with this be? Bring your kids to come play and recall where a monster enslaved innocent women for a decade? Am I missing something here?
In my mind, now that the house is gone, the very best thing to do would be to leave alone. Let it grow over with brush and trees. Let it disappear. But the very idea of a "park" is kind of creepy.

(28,498 posts)In another thread I suggested a park with perhaps a bench. A fountain would be nice, surrounded by flowers and bushes, and a few trees. A place where one could go to reflect and meditate. Perhaps bring some calm to a place marked by such a horrific history.
I also suggested a community gardens where local residents could grow food.
Like the phoenix, a place where something positive could rise from the ashes...

(1,989 posts)Maybe a little creepy, but perhaps the idea is to have the joy and laughter that often accompany kids at a park having fun, overpower the dark, evil that was Castro.
He meant the place for bad...now the people can use it for something good.

(14,061 posts)This is what happened to the house in Connecticut where the Petit family was tortured/murdered.
HBO had a documentary about this case and they showed what became of the property. As I said -- a serene, beautiful place. Something to counteract the absolute evil that occurred there.

When the victims pass by they can see kids laughing and playing. They will know that they built that. And it's good.
