I have a question about Al Jazeera's purchase of Current TV

Didn't Al Jazeera just pay hundreds of millions of dollars to buy Current TV?

My ignorant observation is that was the biggest swindle since the Pilgrims bough Manhattan from the Indians for $14 dollars.

Or at the very least, an extremely bad business decision.

I am missing something profound and basic here, aren't I?

Thanks for your future inputs on this.

Will it pay off in the long run?

Dunno.

According to their own website, Al Jazeera is only on 4D TV, Direct TV, and Dish Network.

It is not yet on any other cable providers, including mine (Charter) Current also never got on Charter, but that’s moot because Keith Olbermann is long gone.

Thanks for your response.

They have the whole channel, all day, every day. It's on all the major cable providers. If they're smart, they'll make money soon enough, particularly if they fill a hard news niche. BBC America doe that to some extent, but not enough.

Look how everyone said Oprah was on the ropes with OWN--she's making money now off it (with a lot of recycled content, too) now.
