Seattle city council and mayoral candidates consider a $15/hour minimum wage.

Economists and advocates say it will give people more purchasing power and create jobs. It is so great to see people demanding to be heard on this issue. Let's keep fighting.

$15 would barely cover it.

Good for them, hope they pass it.

Her opponent, the allegedly "liberal" Richard Conlin, has opposed ALL living wage proposals.

because they are a democrat or just because they claim to be liberal. Where they stand on actual issues and how they vote on those issues is what is truly important.

That was minimum wage then. And he became quite successful, supported my grandma, built a house, etc.

Of course if you take the price of commodities back then... Well, gold was $35 an once, so in terms of gold he was making like $40 an hour in modern dollars by gold. In fact in terms of just about any commodity he was making way, way more than our minimum wage.

But he was making $1 an hour on paper, damn it!

1956...that was the year William McKinley rode a dinosaur across the country in his successful re-election campaign, right?

but they'll probably end up settling for less for now. $15 is quite an outlier; the highest right now is San Francisco at $10.55, though DC is about to pass $12 for big-box stores only.
