(3,991 posts)That was minimum wage then. And he became quite successful, supported my grandma, built a house, etc.
Of course if you take the price of commodities back then... Well, gold was $35 an once, so in terms of gold he was making like $40 an hour in modern dollars by gold. In fact in terms of just about any commodity he was making way, way more than our minimum wage.
But he was making $1 an hour on paper, damn it!

(78,249 posts)but they'll probably end up settling for less for now. $15 is quite an outlier; the highest right now is San Francisco at $10.55, though DC is about to pass $12 for big-box stores only.
