General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAny argument about yesterday's developments on Syria is futile if it's premised on:
- Putin saved Obama's ass.
- Kerry accidentally gaffed his way into preventing a war.
- Obama was about to be embarrassed.
At this point those arguments don't even have the support of a he said, she said among the major players. One has to dismiss the fact that everyone involved in the discussion, including Putin, state that the proposal was part of ongoing talks.
Kerry said something, and within hours, Russia proposed that Syria accept, which it did, and then the UN signed on. By the end of the day, China and Iran were also on board.
The proposal didn't even have a chance to become a rumor.
It was suggested, proposed, accepted, confirmed and agreed to before Kerry got off the plane.

(116,464 posts)if you're disagreeing with Obama, Kerry, Putin, Lavrov and all the other major players, you're speculating. On edit, it amounts to baseless speculation.

(114,904 posts)unless the premise is that President Obama is infallible.
You have actually stated that he's the greatest President in history. Your take on him is that he's virtually a god.
And that's not overstating your point of view.
That makes discussing the policies of this administration with the likes of you an exercise in futility.

...you decided not to address the OP point because you can't. Instead you try to make it about me.

Let's see if you can admit that Leahy is not "infallible."
Obama isn't perfect. I have no idea what he's thinking. I can only make points based on what I read and my own frame of reference. Unless you and anyone else here know what he's thinking, everyone here is doing the same.
I don't care what you think about why I'm making the point. I make them, and I am free to make them.
Now, care to address the point in the OP.

(114,904 posts)Of course Leahy isn't infallible. I disagree completely with him on the F-35s being based in Burlington. I think his support for it is disgraceful.
But YOU twisting his position on Iraq is flat out disgusting.
Look, I think there's something very unhealthy in how you look at the President. And you may say he isn't perfect, but I have NEVER seen you do anything but lavish blind adoration on him. Not one even mild criticism. EVER
Prosense: President Obama, already one of the best presidents ever
Sorry, pro. I 'm not like you. I don't blindly adore any politician. And I've criticized Leahy here.
Worshiping a politician is your thing.

(9,385 posts)and I am very upset with Obama about certain things that we argue about. But on this issue I agree with you.
Obama may yet screw this up, that remains to be seen and anything is possible. But so far, he has done a very good job on this! Going to Congress was a great thing, and none of the so-called "gaffes" by him or Kerry are even worth bringing up. Yesterday's developments were pretty fascinating, and it says to me that he has a very good grasp of the situation and the players overall. It shows that there is more going on than what's in the news.
We should be giving credit where credit is due. It is petty and biased not to.
