It seems we have our own "Mission Accomplished" contingent at DU

We all hope this situation ends peacefully and to the satisfaction of the United States and its allies but none of us can say with certainty this is the case.

As the old saw goes " Don't count your chickens before they are hatched."

... is really ridiculous.

I mean why the affinity for one of the worst presidents <Reagan> to ever happen to the United States?

Does that answer your question satisfactorily?

That's why I am confident this crisis isn't close to being resolved and the victory dances are premature.

In matters of war and peace prudence is the safest and sanest option.

What does Putin and Russia gain, though, by trotting this out and then reneging?

Plus, he could have used another phrase. Right now, there's a large contingent of the Left who is not happy with Obama's decision making regarding this and other situations. Trotting out Reaganesque quips just seems like he's showing his contempt.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away and know when to run.
You never count your money when you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin' when the dealin's done.

I wouldn't be dancing. There are some very powerful people that want this war, so the future will be very interesting.

Not very cool to start threads equating DUers with George Bush in a flightsuit.

I would think Édouard Daladier's and Neville Chamberlain's claim "to have preserved peace in our time" would have been equally or more odious.

I think "Peace in our time" was followed by a war that took tens and tens of million of lives.

If this works he's going to look like a genius with the operative word being if.
