One of the principles of Judo is to use an opponents own force/momentum against him.
I.E. threat of military attack - sidesteps and says "have it your way - chemical weapons gone"?!
John Kerry lunges forward, trips over foot, goes sprawling to the mat....
on edit, that looks like a black belt on Putins waist... Judo is probably the most difficult, demanding legitimate art to earn rank in...

(34,589 posts)yes, basically.
IIRC, you mess around with your opponent until you find an imbalance, then you decisively act to exploit it.

(4,734 posts)the same principle applies in Chinese internal arts such as Tai Chi push hands. I dabbled in my younger days.
I was told that in a sense this is "teaching" an opponent
Those lessons hurt like hell

And that was set up to make him look good.
And then signing autographs?
I guess it is a lot less work to be head of Russia than the US. Plenty of time for messing around.

(4,734 posts)... it is likely his martial skills are honestly earned, and in the case of field intelligence agents as he was, your life depends on them. It takes nothing away from Obama, I will applaud all involved if peace is the outcome. It will show true progress from the dark days of Bushco.

(285 posts)Obama plays basketball, and I would imagine that he is in great shape. So how I see it, if the 2 were to square off, Pres. Obama would float like a butterfly around Putin's ass, and then drop him with a good left hook. My money is on Pres.Obama !

(10,716 posts)I don't particularly care who gets credit, and I have the feeling that the president doesn't care who gets credit. For a good negotiator, attaining your goal is much more important than scoring popularity points (or whatever else people think is at stake).
