Naked Miley sets record with 'Wrecking Ball' video

Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" music video is destroying records as thoroughly as the wrecking ball in the video destroyed the walls of its set. The video, which premiered Monday, received 19 million views on the VEVO music-video website in just one day, almost doubling the previous record held by One Direction's "Best Song Ever."

The singer campaigned heavily to encourage her fans to break the record, and it worked. "Wrecking Ball has officially beat the @VEVO record. thank you smilerzzzzz," Cyrus tweeted on Tuesday. "Y'all did went so above and beyond with wrecking ball I love you so much and thank you for breaking the vevo record!!!"

The video, which comes on the heels of Cyrus' controversial MTV Video Music Awards performance, shows Cyrus -- sometimes wearing underwear and a tank top and sometimes nude -- riding a wrecking ball. She also wields, and sometimes licks, a sledgehammer.

Cyrus' dad, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, made light of his daughter's video on Monday in a tweet.

It is something, I don't even think she is very attractive. In her face, I mean. But she knows how to make a spectacle of herself.

That doesn't make Miley Cyrus a hero. Sure lots of money is being made there and lots of money is being made on crack and meth - none of which I think is a good thing.

I thought Miley's performance at the MTV Video Music Awards was vulgar and lacked real talent. Too bad that if she is fortunate enough someday to have children they will see a clip of that show and see her at her worst.

Obama's fault, clearly.

Actually I was disgusted by that creeper Robin Thicke at the VMA's--Miley's just trying to get an actual career going with the options she apparently thinks are best.

... belongs to Neil Young, who wrote the eponymous song in 1989 and recorded it on the Freedom album.

...but (on edit), PintoBbean has proved me wrong. The great Grace Slick, 1981. Hey, PB, you should update the Wikipedia disambiguation page...it doesn't include Grace.
Mea culpa.

Second belongs to Emmylou Harris whose Wrecking Ball album, featuring Neil's song, was recorded in New Orleans, 1995; released September 26, 1995. Wrecking Ball won the 1996 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Recording.

No offense to the Boss, his album was great.

And Ms. Moldy Cyrus, or whatever her name is, is obviously inoffensable (spell check objects to this word and offers as an alternative insufferable - lol. Three cheers for artificial intelligence!)

...but merely to note that in the past there has been some actual musical content associated with "Wrecking Ball" as a song.

On the Dylan/Bieber notion, I have never heard a note uttered or stuttered by Mr. Bieber. So, I had to search.

Well, I did find, The 8 Ways In Which Justin Bieber and Bob Dylan Are Exactly Alike

My favorite was #6:

6. Both were born in Canada!
Well, Dylan was actually born in Duluth, Minnesota. But Duluth is like three hours away from the Canadian border, which makes us believe he probably grew up putting suspiciously better maple syrup on his pancakes than the rest of us…

I also, sadly, found this from Monday, April 1, 2013: Justin Bieber - Bob Dylan tribute album:

Island Def Jam Music Group confirmed today that JustinBieber will be heading into the studio starting May 15, 2013 to record a tribute album to Bob Dylan. “It will be a new and exciting direction for Justin” stated Executive Producer Scott “Scooter”Braun. Sources at Island Records confirmed that Bieber is looking for a more mature sound as he moves into his twenties. One source even hinted that some of Bieber’s recent erratic behavior (such as wearing a gas mask in public), is Justin’s way of getting into the protest song mindset.

Current plans call for an album of 12 Dylan covers, 2 Dylan inspired originals penned by Bieber himself, and a mega dance mix. Dylan has apparently signed off on the project, and is considering a duet with Bieber on “The Times They Are A-Changin’”.

I honestly can't tell whether the article is a satire. It's not the Onion. It's not Borowitz. But, somehow, the odor of the story makes me very suspicious.

Not her music per se as much as her spirit.

I like her "I don't give a damn" attitude.

She and I share that trait.....

Written by Gillian Welch

Look out boys, 'cause I'm a rollin' stone
That's what I was when I first left home
I took every secret that I'd ever known
And headed for the wall
Like a wrecking ball

Started down on the road to sin
Playin' bass under a pseudonym
The days were rough and it's all quite dim
But my mind cuts through it all
Like a wrecking ball

Oh, just a little deadhead
Who is watching, who is watching?
I's just a little deadhead
I won a dollar on a scholarship
Well, I got tired and let my average slip
Then I's a farmer in the pogonip
Where the weed that I recall
Was like a wrecking ball

I met a lovesick daughter of the San Joaquin
She showed me colors I'd never seen
Drank the bottom out of my canteen
Then left me in the fall
Like a wrecking ball

Standin' there, in the morning mist
A Jack and Coke at the end of my wrist
Yes, I remember when first we kissed
Though it was nothing at all
Like a wrecking ball

Hey boys, just a little deadhead
Who's watching, who's watching?
I's just a little deadhead
With too much trouble for me to shake
Oh, the weather and the blindin' ache
Was ridin' high until the '89 quake
Hit the Santa Cruz garden mall
Like a wrecking ball
