A 14-year-old girl explains the decline of America and the parallels to Orwell's 'Animal Farm.' She's right.

Animal Farm Vs. America, A Comparison

(146,317 posts)as this girl did. Things seem to change, but do not really change so much. Oddly enough, the book appears to be timeless.
It seems that America has been declining in the same ways for half a century. Maybe longer. Odd, huh?
Orwell wrote about human society in 1945. Humans haven't changed, and societies continue to do similar things, so the book will always be relevant to the times, anytime a 14 year old reads it.

(21,506 posts)This is a twisted comparison that bears little resemblance to reality. This is the screed dad has been teaching her all along and seeing it repeated while I am sure is quite satisfying for dad leaves the child with a warped sense of America and her place in it.
Now this child believes that protesting is dangerous and has created at least in this child a self fulfilling prophecy where she will be afraid that voicing her opinion is something to be afraid of. Despite the fact that there are protests every single day in america without anyone being prosecuted for them or any sort of repercussion whatsoever. Hell one need only look at the crazy church that protests soldiers funerals to see how ridiculous this comparison is on its face.
This 14 year old certainly does not get it, and her dad is a tool.

(11,138 posts)I don't think the comparisons she regurgitates in that paper are quite as far off as you seem to, but I would agree that it seems likely she is simply parroting back to her Dad what he wants to hear. I handled more than one class in college in much the same way, so I can hardly blame her for that. If I were her Dad I think instead of proudly sharing that paper with the world I might do a little remedial instruction on grammar, spelling, and basic penmanship. That isn't very good for a 14 year old.
