I would think that the big business interests would be adamantly opposed to a shutdown, because it will hurt profits. Maybe I'm wrong about that, I'm not an economist.
Are the Teahadists that immune to the influence of the Big Business R types ? I would think they are getting angry phone calls to knock off the BS.

(13,305 posts)If you were to actually segregate the ones who were supposedly not teahadists then none of this would be an issue and all the supposed "extremists" would be doing is stopping their feet and getting outvoted by all Democrats and the supposedly "reasonable" Republicans.
But that's not where we are at. All the Republicans who vote for this debacle are in on the fucking scam and they can all go fuck themselves. And any dem who caves at any level can go fuck themselves as well.

(37,457 posts)We all know that donors with deep pockets have a tremendous amount of influence on both parties, especially the R one. Big business as we all know leans very heavily Republican. The power of big business is overstated right now ? Just amazes me.
Repugs are the teabaggers, they should not be given even the slightest chance to distance themselves.

(4,461 posts)... traditional repubs, it is a fear of being "primaried" by these idiots. Its happened enough times that they are afraid to publicly take an anti-teabag stance on anything - let alone vote against the agenda. The next thing they know, there are "he/she's Obama's lap dog" ads everywhere.

(13,305 posts)But I hope they get tarred as teahadists teabagging teabag types by their Democratic opponents.
Unfortunately that requires a degree of hardball and aggressive approach that far to few of our Democrats lack.

(45,319 posts)has never been some body of 'traditional Republicans' that is not right wing and opposed to the people. To claim some of them are only radical obstructionists for expedience makes me laugh.

(37,160 posts)This is where the "Frankenstein's monster" aspect of the teabaggers comes into play. They're so heady in their righteousness (and own personal power plays) that the BB guys can't pull strings the way they would prefer to.
That's the thing about outsourcing: if you're not very careful, you lose control of your product.

(9,748 posts)Look at a Tea Bagger rally, and what do you see? I see a bunch of economic losers in life convinced they are only losers because the government gets in their way. They will go on at great lengths to tell you how hard they have worked their entire lives. Many of them probably really have been told by employers that they would have gotten the job if it wasn't necessary to hire a minority instead.
I know several of this type. I have mistakenly hired this type. They are far from what an employer would call a hard worker. You can not be selfish and a hard worker from the employer's perspective. "I'm not being paid to do that," automatically moves you to the top of the fire-as-soon-as-possible list.
Sadly, a lot of employers in that instance will tell the person being fired (or not hired because of their selfish attitude during the job interview) it is because of some non-existent diversity policy. It is far easier than saying, "you suck." For one thing, "you suck," can lead to lawsuits.
And, "why did he spend an hour interviewing you instead of dismissing you as soon as he saw you were White," is not apparently a valid argument to these yokels.
So they believe themselves to be the chosen people. But they have nothing. They don't own stocks and could care less if the market crashes. They obviously don't have the slightest understanding of how the government or an economy works. They have been taught simple platitudes that they believe hold the truth about how an economy work. And those platitudes tell them that shutting down the government will make everything better.
The 1% created this monster with their propaganda. And many DUers are flat out wrong when they claim that money is EVERYTHING you need in politics. Votes trump money every time. Money makes it easier getting votes. But we have reached a time and place within the Republic Party where those voters' minds are fixed (fixated might be a better word). No amount of money is going to change that anytime soon. Elected Republics now have no choice but to feed the monster until the monster is sated.

(12,660 posts)Many of them are Dominionists and/or Randroids, who actually believe they're doing real work - or at least "God's Work" because in their worldview, making shitloads of money is the sign of hard work or Grace.
Since Big Business that makes tangible items to sell don't make as much profit as Investment Businesses do, they've been pretty much ignored in politics and "think tanks".
It's all about the short-term show and the promises of "Heaven". So the Teahadists don't care, because for the most part, they're sure they're doing the right thing to get to heaven on the back of their disdain and punishing policies, and their Investment Business backers are sure they'll be able to weather any financial downturn to come up on top and in charge.
