The shutdown is not really about Obamacare.
After watching Rachel Maddow last night she made the point that Obamacare is just the excuse they are currently using. There were others reasons in the past.
What is their reason then?
Why to shut down and eventually destroy the government of the United States of America of course.
Reagan started it with his insistence that government is the problem.
That meme has grown and festered for so long that it has mutated into "Government is evil and must be eliminated."
There is no logic behind it, it's simply a blind faith that this concept is correct and the extreme right is dedicated to making it come true.
They are anarchists plain and simple.
Traitors, certainly, but there doesn't seem to be a clear law that covers this so they can't be charged.
I don't believe they will give in before the debt limit crisis in a couple of weeks.
They want to destroy the economy. They want to remake America into a lawless, wild, Somalian like wasteland.
Just like in Iraq, they have blind faith that this is what they want with no thought of the consequences afterwards.
If they considered the consequences they wouldn't do this but consequences are part of reality and reality is not part of their world view.
It's like a mental cancer and it seems to be spreading.
Enough moderate Republicans may rebel enough to stop the shutdown but I'm sure the hard right will push to keep the damage growing as long as they can.
They consider themselves to be winning because the government is shut down. Whether Obamacare remains or disappears is immaterial.
They have a foothold in destroying the government and they will dig it in as deep as they can and will repeat this exercise whenever they can manage in the future until either they are destroyed or the country is.
That's my assessment and an almost unbelievable assessment it is, even to me.
