Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement today on the start of open enrollment in New Hampshires health insurance marketplace:
Today marks the beginning of an effort that will take time and face challenges, but that will ultimately lead to stronger health and financial well-being for people across the Granite State.
Consumers will now have access to important protections and more comprehensive coverage. Preventive care, including annual physicals, cancer screenings, birth control and mammograms, will be fully covered with no out-of-pocket costs. With the elimination of caps on coverage, no longer will families be forced into bankruptcy because of healthcare costs. All families and individuals can now get the critical coverage they need regardless of preexisting conditions. And with federal assistance, hard-working New Hampshire families and individuals will be able to use the federally run marketplace to choose from a series of health insurance products and access coverage at more affordable rates.
In the weeks and months to come, healthcare professionals will be working together to provide critical information to consumers, and I thank all of our partners for their commitment to the health of our people and communities. We hope insurers and providers will seize the opportunity to ensure that consumers have the information they need to make their own decisions about their health care.
