me yet to determine what kind of prices I could be looking at.
I live in Maine and was on Medicaid, but the TeaBagger Governor refused expansion and also cut us back from the current 200% poverty level to 133%, so my husband and I will be removed from the program. Trying to determine how much basic insurance will cost in our very noncompetitive market is not going well. No one has any hard numbers yet!

(36,974 posts)So, it might be a good idea to wait a couple days/weeks until they get all the kinks worked out and then look again
With MILLIONS of folks all trying to use the websites all at once it's no surprise that there are bugs.
GreenPartyVoter
(72,378 posts)to get info here because right now my husband is convinced that we won't be able to afford it so he wants to just pay the fine. (And he says this right after spending a week in the hospital!!!)
I will try to be patient and wait it out a bit. Maybe next month there will be some sort of specific info out there for my state.

(22,541 posts)Since you live on the east coast waking up early in the morning, and I mean VERY early, like 5:00 a.m., would be a good time to get online to try to get some answers. Before the rest of the country wakes up and clogs the system again. Even earlier if you can. And, if you can wait a couple of days so the kinks can be worked out.
Also, call 1-800-318-2596. It's the 24/7 Call Center. They can answer questions.

Any answer at all appreciated.

(22,541 posts)I don't know how bogged down Live Chat is. It might not be experiencing much traffic at all or it might be getting a ton. If it is, try the early morning hours. For you in CA, it'd be better to try 1:00 to 4:00 a.m. than to get up at 5:00.
For anyone with Medicaid questions the Kaiser Family Foundation has good articles, links and charts.
kff.org and search for adult medicaid eligibility by state

(32,324 posts)I am going to wait for a few weeks so that some of the consumer demand dies down.
Need to see the difference between the two insurers that I can use - when stuff is all acronyms it is not wise to make a decision until there is clarification.

(39,215 posts)the policy and the exact costs. She has insurance through her work place and she wants to compare the programs to see which offers more and to be sure it will cover the illnesses that her family members are experiencing.
Also I am wondering if persons who already have coverage through a veteran's program or Medicare/Medicaid should be looking into ACA? I am covered by the M/M - do I have to sign up for any reason?
GreenPartyVoter
(72,378 posts)wrong. There are supposed to be advocates to help us through this stuff, so somewhere out there someone knows!

(72,378 posts)send you in circles, and then tell you to go to the Kaiser calculator. I have been there a bunch of times, and since the numbers aren't state specific it doesn't really give me an answer.

(28,581 posts)I think the tax credit subsidy will cover most of your premium.

(72,378 posts)newspaper that I will try later, and hopefully they will have hard numbers and plan comparison charts instead of vague references on what to do and a calculator that gives national averages, which I know are lower than what the state newspapers are suggesting we will be paying. (Our exchange consists of only two companies, so the expectation is that our prices will not be as competitive as in states with multiple companies involved.)

(72,378 posts)thanks for the wishes for good luck with LePage. The upcoming election is shaping up to be a repeat of the debacle that put him in office last time. *sigh*

(51,666 posts)Just go to healthcare.gov, then click on the green APPLY NOW button.
Then choose your state from the dropdown menu (down a bit on the left). Click the green APPLY NOW button. I got a screen that says:
"We have a lot of visitors on the site right now. Please stay on this page. We're working to make the experience better, and we dont want you to lose your place in line. Well send you to the login page as soon as we can. Thanks for your patience!"
Then just sit tight and wait in line, I guess.
The phone isn't a bad idea. Wait online at the same time you are waiting on the phone, and whichever is available first you can go with.
I personally love our CA portal. I already figured out what plan I wanted and could afford a couple of weeks ago.

(72,378 posts)the initial flood of traffic died down it wasn't bad.
I will keep looking on the health care. Gov site for any links I might have missed. Luckily I have some time yet, but since I need to win over a skeptical husband I need to have the best info in hand to make me case, you know?
