All we need now is one big hurricane with no government weather information
I do not wish this on anyone, but another large one hitting, say, North Carolina, Texas, South Carolina, etc. might have some of these idiots in Congress singing another tune.
Further, if what I am hearing about many of these Republican gerrymandered districts is true, they are too often rural with whites of limited education. I would love to know the percentage of the Republicans living in these districts who depend on government aid. Red states get far more from the federal government than they give to the government and it is reversed for blue states.
What started me thinking along these lines was seeing good old Second Virginia Congressional District Republican Congressman Scott Rigell on Rachel Maddow tonight saying that he was against the shutdown. He had to get on record for saying this as his district is all of Virginia Beach, Virginia, part of Norfolk, the Delmarva Peninsula section of Virginia, and part of Hampton and Newport News. This district not only has several huge naval installations, some Army, a veterans' hospital, and also NASA--to name just a few federal government agencies--and a lot of retired military and civil service personnel In fact, the federal government is probably the largest employer in the area. Talk about angry constituents if this shutdown goes on for any length of time.
I wish that Rachel had asked Rigell about his motivations for appearing on her show given who his constituents are.
