I Am Getting Concerned That This Crisis Could Become Really Ugly And Possibly Dangerous.

I think that things are starting to get out of hand as the GOP seems intent to double down every hour no matter if the country implodes. If they use the "nuclear option" by refusing to raise the debt limit a lot of checks will stop. That includes Social Security and Medicare payments among other things. And our military will have to stand down and be stranded in the war zones. Once they tip the "debt limit domino" the damage will be impossible to stop.

The public is still not aware of how dangerous the GOP is now. They have become a rabid dog ready to bite and maul everyone in the country and I believe the Kochs and their billionaire friends like Reich exposed are directly behind this crisis. And it is a crisis and the shut down is more serious than we know.

The media is hiding the damage to protect the GOP. And they are trying to down play the critical nature of what they are doing. The nation is having a heart attack of sorts and the GOP is deliberately aggressively blocking any treatment.

We are treating them too kindly. They have no legitimate reason to govern as they do. We must realize that at some point we are going to have take the political gloves off and challenge their madness.

What I find most bothersome is that they are showing NO REMORSE OR CONSCIENCE for the people who will suffer and die eventually from their tactics. In fact they are getting more aggressive. Cruz is a very dangerous and ruthless politician. In my view he is just as dangerous as Bin Laden was in a different way. And he really is a egomaniacal psychopath.

They are creating a dangerous crisis and are playing with fire deliberately.

Being a vet you learn to get the feel of the terrain. It is like when troops get near an ambush or a firefight in Vietnam. You cannot see far in the jungle, but the instincts take over an things feel wrong and look wrong.

Because the media is so bad an corrupt now they are totally unreliable. And we don't have any kind of media that will expose them. The media is giving them legitimacy and cover 24/7. And hate radio is 90% dominant. About 75% of the populace only hears the hate radio message. When Orson Wells did his sic fi program back in the 1930's he terrified the country. Hate radio is spreading hate and terror everyday now in support of the GOP.

This situation stinks of a larger conspiracy. And there is something behind these baggers.

I am wondering if others have this same feeling about the situation. When a drunk Speaker mocks a President like Bonehead did that is really a historical first and should bring outrage.

And they don't just want this country. They want a holy war and they aim to have it. I have been saying this for years after having attended their churches. They think the US was created by God as his plan and these 7 Mountain types (one is Sarah Palin) and to fulfill their Prophecy they HAVE to first take over all aspects of this country. That's exactly what their 7 Mountains (or pillars) are. They cannot just coexist to fulfill their plan. Its much more serious then people know. They are slowly quietly doing it...

And when the public schools all close it will be fine because moms will be home anyway and can just homeschool.

This is what they are aiming for. It isn't about the deficit or the debt ceiling. It is about destroying the United States and our culture as we know it.

Where do you get this information? The president can override in such a situation and I'm sure he would. It may trigger an impeachment ruse by the Gop-jugend but that won't fly. The problem is serious and dangerous but unless you can back that one up (and I will listen) it's a bit over the top. Relating the seriousness of the situation is good, misinformation is not helpful.

It seems like nothing is over the top these days when it comes to the GOP. As far as stranding the troops you are probably right the President could probably act. Having been in the military it takes money and time to move and relocate troops. With a frozen debt limit we cannot borrow any money. I see it like getting a paycheck that bounces. If you have no funds you cannot buy services.
We have to buy services and material to support our military. It just seems logical that if your ability to move money is frozen who is going to give you the food, transportation and fuel to move that force.

Remember all the arguments that the GOP used about funding to support the troops when Bush was in office. They raised the debt limit a number of times without conditions. If not raising the debt ceiling then would be a problem for the military then I see no difference now. Perhaps they were being deceitful.

Wed Oct 2, 2013, 02:43 AM
Oct 2013

has the power of executive order, he just doesn't like to use it. He has sworn to protect the Constitution and us from enemies foreign and domestic...

He does have the power to override the Congress,in emergencies (one of the Bu$h ploys was to be at war which gives the president unusual powers over the rule of law and Congressional powers so he had him some wars, but I digress) the troops would not be stranded as we have plenty of transportation vehicles to get them home and lots of fuel in the national reserve. But there would be a lot of things, like social program that would be greatly altered in times of national emergency...

It wouldn't be pretty but I think the pres has enough cajones to fend off a coup if one presented itself, but it would be really ugly and should be avoided if possible.

I share your concern about our domestic fundies and their self proclaimed divinity, no different from the "others" for whom they distracted us for at least a decade by saying, "Look, over there!" and we looked and saw their mirage and responded as they wanted. Now the scales are falling from our eyes and the hour is getting late.

So what do WE do now? Food for thought, glad I'm not the only one pondering these concepts here and speaking up about it. There's a lot at stake and we need to protect our interests here at home and without hesitation. They've played their hand in this round and we need to play ours well now.

25. When Our Neighbors Wish Us Dead or Broke, We're in Trouble with More Than Our Health Care System
Wed Oct 2, 2013, 03:18 AM
Oct 2013
...Not only was I lectured to about the conditions in society that one public servant feels so strongly about that he would berate a volunteer organizer for health care justice, but I also heard and saw very clearly that if this man had his way, people like me and my husband would indeed just go broke and/or die when the insurance premiums and other out-of-pocket costs got too high for us to pay. I have heard that before, so that wasn't the haunting for me. It was the internalizing later of the knowledge that there are people in my own family who feel the same way. There are neighbors on my block too who just think people "like me" are expendable. I could argue from now until forever that I have worked hard since I was 12 years old and babysitting four or five nights a week, and worked through my husband's open heart surgeries, slept in my car to be near him in the hospital, worked while sick with cancer so I could keep our benefits paid, put up with abusive bosses and discrimination and worse just to stay financially afloat, and it wouldn't matter. It hurts to my core today, this Labor Day...

I also wondered for this young man who argued with me at the State Fair what would happen if his dreams came true and all who are lazy (from his point of view) were just to suffer and die. Surely our numbers of health care dead and broke would soar even higher. But who would do his grunt work? Who would serve up his fast food meals or ring up his WalMart purchases? Who would be left that lived up to his standards and was worthy to be as blessed as he has been in life? Does he really think these people work less hard than he does? Sadly, he probably does.

Tomorrow or whenever the haunting feeling of being so reviled by my some of my own family members and neighbors subsides, I'll rise up again. But for today, I think I'll consider my options. Death will come someday. And today I think that sounds pretty OK. That's what a selfish society looks like, folks. People lose hope and blame themselves. Then maybe they get angry and rise up or maybe they just die. Is that what we really want for one another?

http://www.commondreams.org/view/2013/09/03

The answer to whom the young man thinks will do his grunt work is obvious from the legislation they pass in the states. It's a woman or a beaten down person, allowed to exist at his whim.

Just stumbled on this and it was from Labor Day. I only see things getting worse in my blue state right now. We are living in two different realities side by side. These people are so sadistic and full of hate, they see those who aren't part of their cult as the first blood in their plans to create their new world.

As you say the media is covering for them, those who are paying attention in real life know this a vicious and deadly group.

And I feel very much the way that she does, and worry for my family, and myself.

These Republicans are a bunch of crooks and cowards, that is right crooks and cowards.

What they seek is one thing and that is more money $$$ for their ilk and more money $$$ for wars without end and the demise of America as most of us have known it to be; the 99% that are the "not haves" so to speak.

I hope the Republican party self-destructs as a result of this barbaric effort/tactic to dehumanize the other 99% of the American citizens that are not of their stinking "ilk" so to speak and they live in glass houses and how dare they throw stones!

I thought that Katrina would finish off the Republican party once and for all but it did not (wrong folks "involved" in that "incident" so to speak .. ). It was the end I thought really when American citizens were left to die in that horrible storm and to this day, they still don't know what the real numbers are and that is because this same group of people aforementioned doesn't care about them. They are not members of the 1% so to hell with them is their holier than thou attitude.

I remember what my late father (a vote the ticket died in wool Democrat) use to say about pukes: "I've never seen one yet that ever had a god damn thing to offer!".

Wow was he ever right eh? They in fact don't have a damn thing and that is why they sit behind the table acting "as if" they are ready to negotiate when it has been made clear to them already that the President does not plan to "negotiate" with these freaks that do not have the best interest of the American people in mind -- they care only about their "ilk" which I believe is getting smaller with every day that passes.

This is a despicable group of trash that needs to be tossed out of politics once and for all are they, yes they are terrorizing the American people and the American way of life.

As for the President, my advice to him is to sign an Executive Order and pass the damn budget and get the house in order to avoid any more chaos! This needs to be done at once!

Thanks for you post and again, welcome to the DU!!!

37. The debt limit isn't quite as dangerous as feared, IMO.
Wed Oct 2, 2013, 11:24 AM
Oct 2013

Obama has a few easy ways to maneuver around it:

-Just ignore it. What are they gonna do, impeach? They'll never get a conviction in the Senate.

-$1Trillion coin - Constitution give the executive branch absolute power over certain coinage. So mint up a $1 Trillion coin, deposit it in the Federal Reserve, and you're no longer at the debt limit.

-14th amendment route - Some argue obeying the debt limit violates it, but the language isn't directly applicable. That's why I think he'll do the next one.

-"Conflicting Laws" route - Congress passed a law saying "spend this", and other law saying "don't borrow more than this". Can't obey the first without violating the second, and can't obey the second without violating the first. This has happened before, and the way it was dealt with was the President picked one law to enforce, and asked Congress to fix the conflict.

So Obama has tools to neuter the debt limit. But it would be better if he didn't have to. Announcing that he has these tools now, and that he will use one of them, would mean that the Republicans would definitely not increase the debt limit. They'd know Obama would stop the damage, so they'd be free to demagogue.

So the White House has to say they don't have these tools, or that they won't work, because then Republicans have to fear the damage they could cause. That may be enough to get the Republicans to not hold it hostage. But if they do, there is room to maneuver around it.
