that if the government can't verify all that, they also can't prosecute him for it if you weren't a citizen. If they see your documents that you have a right to work in this country, that's all they really need.

The W4 is a witholding form, not an eligibolty form. The only thing the employer needs is a, ompleted I9. If you have corrext documentation (Ssn card and State ID) then you're good to go. Employer can mail in the form. No waiting period required.

As long as you fill out the W-4 they can file it later, and no law applies if there is not an ability to do what the law mandates - that's a constitutional principle.

They are probably assuming that the shut down will be over in a few days, but if it isn't, just call them back and go through the first steps - by that time they'll modify their policy.

The law can't require you to do anything that you can't do.

All they need is the I- form, and they can send that in.

I would be surprised if this is universal, but I guess I'll find out. It has always been a paper process in my experience (but then again my experience is 13 years old).
