We Support The Troops--Kiss Another Favorite Tea-publican Meme Goodbye

Who hasn't heard some right-winger or other go off on how much they support the troops? Many of us have seen Republicans going out of their way to claim how patriotic they are, how much they support the American military, how much they support the men and women in the US armed services, and how all too many credulous voters let themselves be deluded into thinking that the Tea-publicans actually have the troops' and the veterans' interests at heart.

Well, we've just seen how much the Tea-publicans "support" the troops: the Republican politicians in Washington have voted to continue paying themselves while letting the troops and their families go without paychecks.

For the Tea-publicans, it's time to scratch out "We support the troops" and replace it with something more accurate: "WE STIFF THE TROOPS!"

Let's remind our fellow voters about that next election.

signed an executive order to pay the military.

The poster is right. The teapublicans were thinking about the troops getting paid at all with their forced shutdown.

Congress passed a bill that originated with the GOP in the House. For Repubicans, it was a ploy to shield them from charges that their government shutdown would hurt the troops. When it passed, the President signed it into law.

We now have limited access to medical care, since most bases use civilian doctors instead of military ones.

The commissaries are now closed, so groceries are now more expensive.

Many bases have civilians in support positions, so now it's more difficult to get problems resolved.

There's more to military life than the paycheck. And right now, we aren't even sure that we can trust the system enough to expect the next paycheck to arrive on time.

I was born on a base, grew up as a GI brat and served in the military.....I was simply correcting the implication that troops would NOT BE PAID

I miss being in the military, especially the people I worked with.

Dad retired when I was young, but I still remember him trying to convince me that climbing into a submarine would be a lot of fun.

as long as there are TV cameras and flag waving photo ops to be had.

Once the cameras stop rolling, when it comes to things like funding for VA hospitals and such, democrats are their friends, not teapublicans...
