Having calmed down a little from yesterday I'm trying to figure out the Republican rationale for what is happening, and as near as I can tell it's that the ACA is such a terrible thing that it's worth any price to stop it.
Can you imagine this tactic being acceptable on our side of the fence? Say we could have stopped the invasion of Iraq with it? Or repeal the Bush Tax Cuts? Force a pullout of Afghanistan? End the drone program? End the surveillance of our electronic communications?
Would threatening to shut down the government have been worth it if we could stop these great evils?
Personally I don't see it; part of living in a democracy means the other side wins sometimes (I know this seems caviler, particularly when talking about war. I don't want to downplay the terrible effects of each of those decisions, including deaths.). But curious if others have a different opinion.
