Color me cynical, but I think most Congress Critters look out for themselves first. No, the Democrats are not popping champagne, but they know that the shutdown hurts the Repubs.

people to give up our checks. Even those who are sincere and will give what they earn to charity underscores the point that they have it to give away! We don't! Many of us who work for the federal government live from paycheck to paycheck! It baffles me why some people come to this thread to defend these people--who represent the Top 1% and yet I'm made to be the "ignorant" one.

If these members of Congress are so sympathetic about the plight of federal workers, don't fucking give money to charity, forego your pay!! Better yet, reopen the federal government.

If they can do one or more of these two things, fuck 'em! I don't need their charity!!!

They can not cash the check (if it even comes by check any more, which I doubt). But even if that happened, the funds have already been appropriated and as far as the gov't is concerned, that money has been spent.

NOBODY in this thread is defending anyone who caused the shutdown.

How they donate everything to charity only to find out later how they game the tax system. I'm no idiot! Of course I know how it works. Studies have shown that Progressives, Democrats are less likely to record donations on their taxes while conservatives are more likely to do so.

You're just being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole and could've kept your pro-ReThug comments to yourself.

I don't trust anyone--especially a Republican who supported the shutdown--who tells me that he/she plans to donate their salary. Don't donate. Just don't get paid at all. Period. Problem solved. That way, I wouldn't have to start this thread and you don't have to look like an ass replying with your unnecessarily nasty and rude comments.

I was a Federal Government employee for forty fucking years. I thankfully retired three years ago. I know how it works.

I also know how federal income taxes work, where it seems you don't. Go ahead and rant on about the Repukes. It's justified. But your remarks about being able "to write them off" is ignorant. And you would deny donations to needy charities just because you don't like the donors? OK.

And I'll predict you get paid anyway, just like I did after being furloughed two weeks in '95.

Have a nice day.

and I'm baffled at how some continue to give them a pass.

When Nancy Pelosi controlled the House, the Democrats voted not to raise their salaries. Then the Republicans regained control of the House, they have consisted voted to give themselves raises even though the House has been the least productive in the history of Congress. Now they're paying themselves for being the least productive--even a do-nothing Congress--while many other federal government employees get nothing.

We simply want to go back to work. And I don't buy for one second that they cannot pass a long controlling their own salaries. That is bull.
