Why Boehner is crying: Shutdown pissed away his debt ceiling leverage

Shutting down the government has always been unpopular. But, the debt ceiling is something voters don't understand. They think it means "stop being irresponsible" rather than "default on our obligations." So, the GOP plan all along was to avoid the shutdown, and then extract concessions with the debt ceiling, reasoning that they had leverage due to voter confusion.

Buh bye to all of that.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/02/politics/cnn-poll-debt-ceiling/

According to the poll, 56% of Americans said it would be a bad thing if the debt ceiling was not raised, with 38% saying it would be a good thing for the country.

By a 51% to 43% margin, the public said it is more important to raise the debt ceiling than to delay Obamacare.

A larger majority, 64% to 27%, in a Quinnipiac University survey released Tuesday said they opposed blocking an increase in the debt ceiling as a way to dismantle the health care law.

If the debt ceiling is not raised, just over half of those questioned in the CNN poll, 53%, said congressional Republicans would be more responsible rather than Obama, with 31% pointing more fingers at the president.

Those numbers are only going to move against Orange Julius.

that even though the shut down really sucks it has been, and will continue to be, a lot of fun watching the Oompa Loompa supposedly in charge paint himself into the corner.

They are not. republican "elected officials" are driven by the GOP owners.
If their is profit to be made by not raising the debt ceiling then an attempt will be made to not raise it.
Their is much profit maid from the selling of Greese austerity.

I need give no other example of who republicans represent than this.
With a vast majority of the people demanding some form of firearm controls, we could not even pass minimal background checks.

and so far this is going to plan.
In fact, the GOP is giddy.
They believe when the
shutdown meets the debt ceiling default
that Democrats will cave.
It's a stupid gigantic game of chicken
and we're just roadkill to them.
