2014 House Elections - Can democrats regain control of the house back while retaining the senate?

Last edited Wed Oct 2, 2013, 12:53 PM - Edit history (1)

I really think that to get out of this deadlock, democrats need to control the house of representatives. See, democrats passed ACA (Obamacare) when they had control of both houses. I agree that it is not as good as single payer system but still better than the current system and we are already seeing the effects of ACA by seeing reduced insurance rates and subsidies for the poor.

House Of Representative, Senate and Gubernatorial Election is about 1 Year and 1 Month (13 months) away. We all need to work hard for the coming election and esp. for the house elections.

Few Link Useful for your study on house elections

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2012 (2012 House elections)

Democrats just need to improve their current tally by 17 seats to regain the house.

Here is the list of close victories by republican candidates in 2012 election (% is 7 or less)

1) Florida 2nd Dist. (5%)

2) Florida 10th Dist (3%)

3) California 10th Dist. (7%)

4) NY 19th Dist (7%)

5) Mich 1st Dist (1%)

6) NY 27th Dist (1%)

7) Florida 16th Dist (7%)

8) North Carolina 9th Dist (6%)

9) KY 6th Dist (4%)

10) III 13th Dist (less than 0.01%)

11) Minn 6th Dist (1%)

12) Indiana 2nd Dist (2%)

I am not able to find all with 7% or less voting diff but above given list is a start. Please share if you know any other district where republican candidate won with 7% or less voting difference.

How can you support?

1) You may be living in any of the above district. Thus, you can spread awareness, donate max. to your local representative and democratic party local unit.

2) You may be living in a state which has a district from the above list. If possible, visit the district --> spread awareness --> Volunteer and donate.

3) If you are currently living in a confident democratic district (district who were historically democrat or democratic candidate won with 15% or more voting difference in last election), you may want to donate more in the above districts. Donation to your local district matters but the real difference will be made by the swing districts. Thus, if possible donate, volunteer etc to the swing districts more.

4) You may have friends/relatives living in swing districts. You can contact them and see if they are willing to help us in our mission.

This is the perfect opportunity to start a year-long campaign against the GOP as a whole, allowing swing voters the cover of voting against their GOP rep because his very GOPness contributes to the larger problem. Honestly, though, we'd have an easier time of it if we had someone other than Pelosi waiting to be speaker; she really animates their base and alienates moderates.
