If meeting with Congressional leaders is a "cave" then I just don't know what

Last edited Wed Oct 2, 2013, 01:15 PM - Edit history (1)

Why would anyone presume an Obama meeting with Congressional leaders of both parties is a prelude to a cave?

Part of winning the shutdown is a public perception that the other side is uncooperative.

In what scenario would Obama not meet with Congressional leaders?

The Republicans have stooges sitting at an empty conference table to show that the Senate is uncooperative. It's theater.

I think Obama has a history of being a poor negotiator, but that does not mean that meeting with people (almost certainly the best political/perception move) is indicative of anything.

Any. Thing.

Jeez!

(If Obama caves I will tear right into him for that, but meeting isn't intrinsically caving or even intrinsically prelude to caving.)

of the weak GOP and teabaggers roll. They are the ones who have a lot to lose and you can bet they will cave, whether today or sometime soon.

Obama has been saying "I will not negotiate" and only a very small number of people here have opposed that position.

But then when he decides to negotiate, a lot of people are saying it's a good thing, in fact that it is necessary. The definition of what Obama should do seems to be whatever he decides to do. And again, I don't remember you being one of the people here who thinks that way.

And I think Obama has a knack for giving away the store every time he "negotiates."

I do not, however, have any reason to believe that he is negotiating.

That's the distinction. Meeting is good politics and thus does not require any additional reason to explain it.

If he does *negotiate* (offers to give up anything not already conceded) then I will pitch a fit.
