Facts About Tennessee Caves
The Forbidden Caverns in Sevierville, TN. Photo by Flickr user RNRobert.
Tennessee has more than 8,600 known caves thats more than any other state in the U.S. Thats why this week is cave week at CabinConnection.com. On Monday, I wrote a post about the different caves that are available to tour. Today, well look at other interesting information with a glossary about Tennessee caves and wildlife:
■Accidental An animal that is in a cave accidentally. Usually doesnt live long.
■Bacon A thin formation of drip stone that is usually semi-translucent. The bands of color resemble bacon.
■Carbide Calcium Carbide (Ca2C) reacts with water to form the gas acetylene, which is used as a lighting source by cavers and miners.
■Carbonic Acid H2CO3 is a weak unstable acid often found in ground water and is responsible for the formation of most caves.
■Cave Law Did you know that its illegal in Tennessee for a person to break off, crack write on or destroy any natural material found within a cave? The only exception to this is the owner of a privately owned cave, of course. Its also illegal to harm or destroy any cave wildlife, including plants.
■Cave Nazi Term used to describe extremists in the caving world.

There is much more interesting information about Tennessee Caves on the link.
