Re: ACA and Copayments

I just want to post that I had to go into the doctor's office today to have some blood work and other laboratory testing done, and I wasn't aware that I did not have to pay the $150 copayment that I was expecting. I was told that the services I received no longer required a copayment due to health care reform.

Very thankful that I didn't have to pay this out of pocket and wanted to share my gratitude.

having a copay. I had a preventative test done earlier this year that I was surprised to not have to pay a copay for.

This alone has already saved HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of dollars to people.

Some provisions of the ACA have been in effect for years.

Co-pays on preventive exams, vaccinations, and tests were eliminated (on at least some plans) in September 2010.

Plans in effect before March 23, 2010 were grandfathered and did not have to comply. Once benefits on any plan changed, the grandfathering was lost and co-pays for preventive care was eliminated. I doubt there are many of those grandfathered plans around anymore.
