Quick question about the ACA . . .

if you're NOT asking for a subsidy, do you have to give them financial information to learn about the plans, or to apply?

I can't find this info online and our state's phones are still jammed, apparently.

To actually sign up I imagine yes you do... But to shop plans I had to provide no such information (I'm in Mass.)

I still can't see any plans on my Washington state exchange, but I guess I'm not the only one.

Try doing it through Mass. Just to get an "idea" of how it works... the site was working well this morning.

Or who knows. All I want to do is browse plans and prices for two states, and I can't even do that.

I don't want it because it's moral insanity - I have a lot of assets. Just very low income. So what I want to do is just buy insurance!

I am trying to find out what the rates and options are in two states, because I may have to move to make this happen. Before, I could not do this because of preexisting conditions. Nor did I really want to, because I paid for my own insurance for many years, and when the insco (BCBS) found out I was sick they just started denying all claims. I went to a lawyer who explained that although I could win in court, the insco lawyers would rack up the bill and under the law, they would not have to pay any damages or the lawyer's fees.

At that point, I got smart and just bagged the insurance. Once I did, I had enough to buy the medicine.

I'm actually not any more optimistic now, but I figured "Why not give the system one last try?"

If this doesn't work, I'm leaving the country! I would be okay in many countries.

I want to buy insurance for a young woman who would otherwise qualify for Medicaid. She's living with us, and I don't want her to be the only one who can't go to the same doctors we do. And I'm willing to pay for her without a subsidy, but financially she's not a part of our household.

one should be allowed to actually buy market-rate insurance without the subsidy.

you'd think they'd be willing to let you do so!

Or they should just have a category -- above X amount, you don't have to supply any info. What would be the point?

(I'm trying to buy a policy for someone else, out of our funds. But our income isn't really relevant to this.)
