It's not you, Charlie Crist: it's Rick Scott.
A new poll shows the incumbent Republican governor of Florida is struggling so much that Crist, who is viewed favorably by only 43 percent of respondents, still leads Scott by a 12 point margin (50-38) in hypothetical 2014 gubernatorial race.
Crist has yet to announce as expected that he'll run against Scott, and the Orlando Sentinel deemed the poll "laughably too early to mean jack."
But what it does show is that Scott's numbers remain roughly the same -- and very, very bad. Public Policy Polling noted in a release that he continues to be one of the most unpopular governors in the country, with a 33 percent approval and 55 percent disapproval rating.
In fact, the firm reports there are only five governors on whom it has conducted polls who've ever put up worse net approval ratings than Scott, who campaigned on job creation and whose first term has been mired in court fights against Obamacare and to drug test state workers and welfare recipients.

(6,342 posts)They are both garbage in my opinion.
An election between a Republican and a former Republican.
What a nice choice.

(6,342 posts)Crist comes from an area near where I live. I've known him for many years. This guy is at best a political opportunist and at worst a Republican.
This guy screwed up the budget before he left office. And one of the reasons the Florida justice system is a mess is because of him with his mandatory minimums and taking decisions that judges should be making and putting them in the hands of prosecutors.
I do not trust the man, and I never will. He's doing this to get back at Republicans who he thinks scorned him with Rubio. This isn;t about some inner change of thought process that now makes him a liberal. Charlie Crist is not a liberal. Period.

(5,125 posts)... just as Eisenhower, Theodore Roosevelt, and Nixon advanced and/or advocated policies to the left of many current Democratic "centrist" positions.
The intellectual father of capitalism, Adam Smith, would not only be unwelcome in movement "conservatism" today, but would indubitably be castigated as a "communist" because of his distrust of monopolies and corporations, and his advocacy of government regulation to curb monopoly power and to aid the poor, not to mention his early advocacy of universal government financed education.
And even Goldwater was already a persona non grata in the GOP before his death.
In 2008 he expanded early voting hours. He actully believes in people voting. That's much better than puring votes scott.

(945 posts)I thought he was courageous to do that, especially when we were already witnessing the radical beginnings of the Tea Party.
Thing about Crist is that he towed the party line when he was a Republican. Even then, I never thought he was passionate about it. Honestly, I am not exactly giddy "Governor Crist," but I don't have to tell you all about what Rick Scott has meant to us in Florida.
It's still early, though, and the Florida Democratic Party isn't exactly known for its sterling campaign record. Maybe we won't even have to worry about Governor Crist if the Repukes can suppress enough votes.
