Fox Falls For Fake Story About Obama Personally Funding Muslim Museum...

Fox & Friends Saturday criticized President Obama for offering to personally pay for a "museum of Muslim culture" during the government shutdown, a claim that originated from a satire website.

On October 5, the co-hosts of Fox & Friends Saturday discussed the closure of the World War II Memorial, which resulted from the Republican-led shutdown. During the discussion, co-host Anna Kooiman claimed that while the memorial is closed, "President Obama has offered to pay out of his own pocket for the museum of Muslim culture."

{snip}

Unfortunately for Kooiman, the claim that Obama offered to pay out of pocket for a "museum of Muslim culture" originated from the satirical website the National Report. As the fact-checking site Snopes.com points out, a now-removed disclaimer on the National Report noted: "National Report is a news and political satire web publication, which may or may not use real names, often in semi-real or mostly fictitious ways. All news articles contained within National Report are fiction, and presumably fake news."

Fox has a history of passing off satirical stories as actual news.

My right wingers believed it hook, line and sinker. They really think Obama is a Muslim and trying to hide it. That's ODS on a grand scale.

I could tell it was satire right off the bat. Never heard of that site before either. I could just tell by the Obama "quotes." Nothing Obama would ever say. The Obama of some right wingers' minds is a complete fiction.

with which to inflame their droolers.

Remember that a goodly number of those hearing this story will never hear that it was a put-on, and wouldn't believe it was a put-on if told so. The story will reverberate for years among those still blaming Obama's 2012 victory on the non-existent ACORN.

They didn't care whether it was true or not.
They probably had a good laugh over it.
They got to play the story and have a fig leaf (however thin) if they need it.
They know that even if they had to retract, the story would be out there and that retractions neve change that.

They don't care how they mislead - only that they get their bogus message across to adequately scare like-minded, low-intelligence, easily frightened, gullible hate-mongers.

The RWer posted information on HR 3200, they are very easily fooled. Unfortunately they are unable to determine reality, their loss but they continue to report bad information.

in the footer. Which strongly suggests that Fox News didn't even TRY to check out the story, let alone try to confirm it.

But in the interest of fairness and balance, I must also point out that this site features very poorly done satire. Look at the "related" story titles on the page: if it weren't for the first one, I would wonder if NationalReport.net even knows the meaning of the word. The others come across as either rumors, insults, or just plain bad taste:
