Winston Moseley's verdict and sentence...

... "At the time of his arrest, Moseley was working as a "Remington Rand tab operator", had no prior criminal record, and was married with two children...

While in custody, Moseley confessed to killing Genovese. He detailed the attack, corroborating the physical evidence at the scene. His motive for the attack was simply "to kill a woman." Moseley preferred to kill women because, he said, "they were easier and didn't fight back"...

Moseley's trial began on June 8, 1964 and was presided over by Judge J. Irwin Shapiro. Moseley initially pleaded "not guilty" but his plea was later changed by his attorney to "not guilty by reason of insanity"...

On March 18, 1968, Moseley escaped from custody while being transported back to prison from Meyer Memorial Hospital... He held the couple hostage for over an hour during which he bound and gagged Matthew Kulaga and raped his wife. He then took the couple's car and fled.

Moseley became eligible for parole in 1984..."

He has another parole hearing next month. IMHO he won't and shouldn't be approved. I don't believe in the death penalty. Should he, in your opinion, (any who accept the death penalty) have gotten the death penalty?

I agree.

I am in the middle of questioning my stand on Life/no parole for many if not most violent offenders. Please comment further if you have an opinion.

Thanks again.

no capital punishment, but no parole.

This case (and Moseley's subsequent conduct including rape and hostage-taking during a failed escape) is one of the ones that ultimately convinced me of the justice of sentencing people to life without parole...a sentence I generally would consider to be worse than execution.

Even his previous comments indicate that even he does not believe he should ever be released...he has neither remorse nor the strength of will to be able to say he wouldn't do it again. He views himself as her victim, saying that it's over for the victims quickly but he's a victim for life. He admitted to two other murders and added that he liked to kill women; fantasizes about sex with his victim's corpses: he's a necrophile, a potential serial killer caught before he could amass a reign of terror and shows a high risk of recidivism at any age.

Winston Moseley deserves to die in a concrete box by cause of his own misery and natural causes after living a long wasted life of suffering, desolation and loneliness.

That may be cruel but he's a monster.

...of yours "life without parole...a sentence I generally would consider to be worse than execution" is an issue which I wrestle with and one of the reasons for my OP.

I feel the DP is just wrong because of injustices and disadvantages that are the daily realities of the poor and minorities. Life without parole is seriously depressing and I'm sure for most an incredible burden.

I can't accept the burden of releasing serial murders, rapists, child molesters, and those that have no conscience about violence, torture, killing and terrorism.

Thanks...
Any thoughts?
