The Lt. Gov job is where the power is.

For years in Texas a guy named Bill Hobby was the Lt. Gov.

...Democrat of San Antonio may be looking at the job. Lawyer, USMC, multiple term state senator. Some are pushing State Sen. Leticia van de Putte, also has superb credentials. Very active in Demo walkout to protest DeLay's midterm redistricting.

Rumor has it, anyway...

That's the only reason I can see for all the scorn, patronizing, and general pig-headed-ness when it comes to turning Texas blue again, starting with the governor.
