Instead, they agreed, the talks will aim at a more modest, confidence-building measure to replace the sequestration cuts in 2014. Negotiators could aim higher, for a deal saving at least $1 trillion over the next nine years to substitute completely for the arbitrary sequestration cuts. But neither side was hopeful of that.

What does this mean? If you're worried sick that Obama will cut a deal with Republicans to cut SS and Medicare, the best way to stop it is to put Nancy Pelosi back in the Speaker's chair.

(34,589 posts)Thank God that Reid's been steadfastly opposed. He may have other issues, but he knows enough not to attack those who are already hurting badly.

(68,868 posts)will be to Pelosi's left, or that they'll be as effective as her in keeping the caucus together. If we win in 2014, the Blue Dogs will start hogging the spotlight again.

(12,647 posts)Reid is the only Dem leader who isn't drooling over the prospect of Chained CPI. I've collected video clips of every single one of them, except Reid, who are in support of Chained CPI. There are several of Pelosi saying she would support the cuts. I searched thoroughly for Reid's possible support for cuts and it does not exist.
The fact that it's been tabled til after campaign 2014 is good and bad. Good because they're feeling the heat, bad because it's kicking the can down the road and is still a threat. Oh well, it gives me more time to hone this video I'm working on that exposes their plans, and will continue to wait for the right time to release it. I've always made videos exposing Republican corruption. Never thought I'd be waiting in the wings to expose those Democrats who want to join the Republicans and steal from us, yet again.
The Third Way is just the Republican Way in disguise.

(13,305 posts)Let's call on candidates to state clearly and unequivically "No cuts to SS, Medicare, or Medicaid. Those programs are off the table". Both in the primary (if there is one) and then in GE against the Repub.
That should make things very clear.

(25,487 posts)We don't have a deficit issue. As Cheney said, "Deficits don't matter".
Fund the government.... as much as we can get away with. It is a stimulus package, and with interest rates effectively 0%, we're being negligent by not taking the opportunity to have a massive infrastructure program that generates jobs and grows the economy.
No "grand bargain" until Dems hold both houses and the Presidency.

The purists can promise to sit home because they don't like corporatist Democrats, but as usual they will fuck themselves and their goals if they do.
