Christmas is a day of 'greed'. It used to be a Christian holiday, long time ago. The Christmas songs played in just about every pubic place during this season do, in fact, raise the rankles of a lot of people:
Buddists, Muslims, atheists, ... in another words, every one not of the Christian faith!!. and some of them get tired of hearing them too.

(4,742 posts)Most of the music played in public places I don't care for. That's why I have an iPod. If you don't like Christmas music don't listen to it. It is usually in such background in public places it isn't a big deal. I'm an atheist...but I don't let it bother me at all. Matter of fact I like a lot of it.
In addition, it isn't a day of greed for my family or I. Most days in the US are greedy days. But not for my family.

(12,482 posts)But as most educated folk know, and several have pointed out here at DU, Europeans have been celbrating that day way before The Church adopted it. Descendants of those pagans, be they Christian or not will for hundreds or thousands of more years. It isn't going anywhere. Hell that's why the Church hadto coopt it to begin with. It may even change names and reasons again several times. But a lot of people will be celebrating Dec 25 forever probably.
