CHRISTIE: It has to be figured out by those in charge of the national government. My job is to fix whats going on in New Jersey. I will tell you this, george, we wont be able to fix everything in New Jersey until the national leaders set a national immigration policy .
STEPHANOPOULOS: Including a path to citizenship?
CHRISTIE: George, I dont get to make those determinations. Its 2013, i just got elected the governor of New Jersey again. I have already said what I believe. Its a broken system and it needs to be fixed. Lets get to work doing it.
Christie wasnt always so circumspect. During an appearance on This Week in July of 2010, Christie said, The president and the Congress have to step up to the plate, they have to secure our borders and they have to put forward a commonsense path to citizenship for people, Christie told Tapper back then.

(35,392 posts)1. Oh, wait ... a politician makes some statement, and someone actually tries to hold him to this
"promise"???
Well, it is a Republican candidate, so he gets a free pass on any and every statement he made.
A Dem makes a statement, an obvious joke, in a sarcastic manner, and it's held as a blood oath.

I guess he will always fall back on, "I'm busy being the Governor of NJ." Only he isn't, cause he's started his Presidential bid.
Wonder who will end up REALLY running the state. It won't be him.
