Hallelujah and Amen! It’s Church Night, true believers! Mike has a bonfire burning for this chilly Wednesday night’s weekly meeting. A sampling of sermons to satisfy your soul, so to speak.
Including this story of the former police offer who couldn’t stop spreading the good news at at New Jersey mall:
Police were called to the mall shortly after 11 a.m. on Nov. 5 when 56-year-old Oakhurst resident David Wells – a retired Long Branch police officer – was “refusing to leave” mall property after being asked to do so by mall security.
Wells told the Christian News Network that he had been distributing religious materials to mall patrons “in hopes that it will cause them to ponder matters of eternity.”
“I simply approached individuals and asked them if I could ask them a question. If they said no, I left them alone,” Wells told the Christian News Network. “If they said yes I simply asked, ‘Are you going to Heaven?’ How I responded was based on how they answered that question.”
Preach on, brother!
And what’s the matter with Kansas, part 3,214? Seems this good Christian organization refused offers of assistance for the poor, because the “givers” were not godly enough:
The Kansas City Atheist Coalition has been told that its volunteer services will not be needed to help deliver Thanksgiving meals to the poor and elderly this year.
The atheist group has taken offense at the rebuff, but a local rescue mission defends its position.
“We are an unapologetically Christian organization, and we always have been,” said Julie Larocco, development officer for the Kansas City Rescue Mission. “We want to share the message with the people we serve that ‘God loves you, and you are not alone.’ It seemed to us that this (atheist) group probably would not want to deliver those meals.”
The Kansas City Rescue Mission dates to 1950 but began delivering holiday meals only two years ago.
The Atheist Coalition has been pleased to help and was looking forward to another year. But “Kansas City Rescue Mission has decided to use the meals they deliver as a chance to proselytize to its recipients by inserting religious literature into the meals,” Atheist Coalition President Josh Hyde posted Saturday on the group’s website.
He said the mission informed the coalition it “would not be a good fit” for the charitable work.
Ask the hungry family at the table, would they rather have more food, or more religious literature on Thanksgiving? These compassionate conservatives never cease to disappoint!
Still thirsty for more, Truthseeker? In Texas the faithful advocate kidnapping women to prevent them from obtaining abortions. Yes, you heard me, dearly beloved!
Fund Texas Women, a nonprofit that helps support women who seek abortions, has warned that anti-choicers are encouraging members of Christian groups in Texas — where abortion rights have just been gutted — to join an email list of volunteers to take women to abortion appointments. But instead of actually taking women to their abortions, the group Abolish Human Abortion warns, “it’s a wonderful opportunity to minister to an abortion-minded woman for an hour while you DON’T take her to her clinic.”
Or, you know, like, kidnapping.
Via the blog Daily Kos, Fund Texas Women pointed to the Facebook posting by the group, which reads:

It’s the email address being used by a group backed by Fund Texas Women and Lilith Fund looking for volunteers to shuttle TX women around for their abortion appointments. Consider volunteering yourself. I’m not suggeting you actually take a woman to an abortion clinic but it’s a wonderful opportunity to minister to an abortion minded woman for an hour while you DON’T take her to her clinic. And hey if you can’t change her mind by the time she gets out of your car and realizes she is at a church and not the clinic she’s missed her appointment anyway
Wow, just wow. I only hope these women come armed with pepper spray and tasers for their “volunteer” taxi rides to the clinic.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) – The Milwaukee County Zoo celebrated on Wednesday, November 13th, the first birthdays of male jaguar cubs, B’alam and Zean.
For the festivities, zookeepers provided the cubs with some extra special enrichment items. Officials say the “toys” provide enrichment to help the animals exhibit natural behaviors that would be seen in the wild. Those items included wrapped presents with scents and nesting material, a layered ice cake with meat treats and food juices, along with a Happy Birthday sign made with non-toxic paints.
