(32,086 posts)My local fish wrap has had a lot of that lately, especially when it come to the food stamp cuts. And, the most disgusting part about it is that many of the spewers of it describe themselves as "comfortably retired". I really, really wish these smug, ignorant, old fuckers would be forced to go out and try to find a job, themselves. These are many of the same the sons-of-bitches who voted in the assholes that created the conditions we have now, and I would love nothing more than to see Karma come back and bite them in their filthy asses.

(2,606 posts)and I'm disgusted that they rode on the wave of prosperity brought on by the ones that suffered through the great depression and WW2 and think that they did it on their own. They seem to be perfectly happy to have our technology, manufacturing capability and jobs shipped overseas as long as it keeps their stock dividends up.
Sad that the children of the greatest generation seems to have grown into the "I've got mine, leave me alone" generation.

(32,086 posts)My parents are a couple of years older. I am a late Boomer (or a "Generation Jones" according to some), and I have been out of work for some time. After I got laid off, I survived on temp jobs and contract work. Those have all dried up. I want nothing more than to have a job. But, I'm "too old" for many of the small handful of decent jobs out there, and "over-qualified" for all of the crap jobs that are available. It's far more likely that I'll die of some stress-related illness before I "get a job" at this point, no thanks to these self-centered assholes. Also no thanks to the useless sack of shit who is my governor, who refuses to participate in the ACA, letting me and others like me fall through the cracks. These are the same idiots who elected her, BTW.

(2,606 posts)At first my wife didn't understand why it was so hard to get a job, and the ones that I did have I lost due to the a couple of bosses that really fit the sociopathic/bully stereotype (I was in the environmental field so govt. work was the only option).
Now I'm about half way through a physical therapy program.
I wish I was entrepreneurial. There is so much talent in this country waiting for a use. I'd also hire all of the vets/former prisoners with a record that wanted to work. But so far the only idea I had for a business (that I'd have no idea how to run) would be a organic foods coop.
Some of those same boomers are also squatting in jobs just because they don't want to retire. I heard about one in the USACE that would make more money retired (doesn't do anything productive), but won't leave.
Wish you well.

(3,175 posts)Make them listen to the tales of the hundreds of applications submitted with nary a response.
I am a highly trained computer security expert who has been out of work now for 6 months. Not only can I not get a job, I can't even get a response to my applications. I just splurged on a professional resume rewrite in the hopes that I can land something when new year budgets are available.
Ask them where these jobs are piled up that we can get so easily?
Ask them what the hell we are supposed to do when our 6 month cushion evaporates? State unemployment will evaporate at the same time and they keep telling me there are no federal extensions available. It wouldn't even cover my mortgage anyway, far less any food or healthcare.
It looks like I'm going to have to take the 10% penalty for using retirement funds early.
And people wonder why I'm grouchy.

(32,086 posts)"Pick up a rake, and go door-to-door..." I shit you not. These idiots think that a person can make a living doing odd jobs. I don't bother with people like that. Most of them are not in touch with reality, and refuse to be so. Those that are, just don't care. As rwsanders said, the got theirs, screw the rest of us. There's no talking to people like that.

(176 posts)Another source of pride is to be a citizen! For the poor this consists of supporting and maintaining the rich in their power and their idleness. The poor must labour in the face of the majestic equality of the laws, which forbid rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, to beg in the streets, and to steal bread.
