Radio Insider Reveals Devastating Impact of StopRush on Clear Channel
by ProgLegs

Rush Limbaugh's receptionist

Buried deep in the comments on a Wednesday blog article http://www.bradblog.com/?p=10372 about the cancellation of the Randi Rhodes Show, a radio industry insider revealed the devastating impact of the 18 month-old StopRush movement on Rush Limbaugh's advertising power. attribution: None Specified The station employee confirms that the siege by online activists https://www.facebook.com/groups/flushrush/ has left Premiere Radio unable to attract legitimate advertisers to what was once radio's most lucrative advertising platform:

Uch. If you had any idea how much of my day is spent loading up PSAs and crappy MAB commercials to cover up the commercials of actual advertisers bailing from the Rush Limbaugh show. The only paying customers left are the flotsom and jetsom of the ad barrel; every scam website, colon blow medication, phony tax restoration outfits and erectile dysfunction herbs.

Premier isn't where a progressive talker wants to be anyway. They're becoming the bane of radio's existence.

or have they had to cut the amount that they are paid? I cannot imagine that they are still willing to pay as much as they did in the past. I was off work today, and listened to Rush. I noticed the ads were really low on the totem pole. And that made me feel good.

I can recall when local restaurants had "Rush Rooms" where you could eat to the dulcet tones of that waste of scrofula.

Every advertiser that drops him, every station that stops broadcasting his filth is another blow on the stake through the shriveled bitter dog squeeze that passes for Limbaugh's heart.

29. The Origins and meaning of the song Kumbaya...
Fri Nov 15, 2013, 08:34 AM
Nov 2013

The song is an African-American spiritual "that was collected in the 1920s from the Gullah — or Geechee — people of the South Carolina and Georgia coast," says Jeff Place of the Smithsonian Institution's Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. "The Gullah have always fascinated folklorists because they have kept major parts of their African language and speak in a unique English dialect to this day."

The exact evolution of the song is somewhat mysterious, but Samuel G. Freedman of Columbia University traced what may be the earliest recording of the song back to 1926 when a folklorist — using a primitive wax-cylinder recording device — captured the voice of a Georgia man singing it.

Writing in The New York Times in 2010, Freedman noted that "Kumbaya" is actually a soulful cry for divine intervention on behalf of oppressed people. "The people who were 'crying, my Lord,' " Freedman wrote, "were blacks suffering under the Jim Crow regime of lynch mobs and sharecropping."

This was a very good NPR piece, well worth the read.....

and their most important weapon. because the left has been ignoring it it has been all free for the republican think tanks, reaching 50 mil a week from 1200 stations.

to put the nail in the coffin americans need to stop letting their state funded universities broadcast sports on what are not only partisan radio stations but clearly antithetical to what most of those universities declare to be for in their mission statements.

here's a list of about 70 unis that broadcast sports on 170 or so limbaugh stations, or 28%.

https://sites.google.com/site/universitiesforrushlimbaugh/

those stations and many others depend on school sports for community acceptability and to bring in ad revenue. if americans ended that piggybacking the RW radio monopoly could be decimated and the randi rhodes would have many more radio stations available. and the right would no longer be able to short circuit US democracy with unchallenged loud repetition creating alternative realities and pretending to represent popular opinion.

Clear Channel et al have purchased stations with high Arbitron ratings and good balance sheets, installed RW formats, and consequently have taken ratings hits. But this had been going on for 20 ys. There is much more to the RW agenda than running a sustainable broadcast biz model.

They wanted and got an entire mass-media network to promote a RW culture, cost be damned.

is an expression of 'market' forces- like 95% of talk radio is RW because 95% of americans who listen to talk radio prefer the wit and wisdom of limbaugh and hannity.

the RW radio monopoly doesn't exist to sell hair tonic and penile enhancement products- that just keeps the stations paying rent and staff. it's basically free advertising for the 1% and their interests. it exists to sell war, deregulation, tax breaks for billionaires, and global warming denial. and it has done an excellent job doing that for the last 25 years, right under liberals' noses while they analyze in a talk radio vacuum and blame the symptoms instead.

Mon Nov 18, 2013, 01:09 AM
Nov 2013

The RW was quite willing to cut deals with less income than those of more rounded biz models, treating the packaged blowhards as loss leaders in hopes of establishing a deeper culture for its philosophy. Democrats & liberals have drawn away from an identifiable, clearly understood outlook which Americans could support. The political radio network could not work for Democrats even if they had the $ and willingness to try it.

put carnival barkers on every corner and stump in the country screaming all day that we're sluts and thieves and our ideas are treasonous and we stick our ipods in our ears and walk by. let that go on every day for years and pretty soon even the neighbors who know you turn on you.

and there's no written record for the analysts and students of media and politics to read so they analyze in a talk radio vacuum. and the pollsters never include radio listenership when they try to figure out why so many americans believe total BS.

and we allow our universities to broadcast sports on RW radio stations (28% of limbaugh stations piggyback limbaugh stations) https://sites.google.com/site/universitiesforrushlimbaugh/

and there are no protests at RW radio stations- the true GOP teabagger HQ's.

it wouldn't take more than 20% liberal radio to destroy the certitude they need to sell their lies and alternate reality.

You can have the talent & money both, and it would be next to impossible to pull off a radio network without a credible focal point for your philosophy. Liberalism is cut off.

the dotted line with Premier if they get canned. You lay down with dogs like Rushbo, and you get up with fleas.

Keep the pressure on them. I think the next part of the campaign should work on getting college sports off of hate radio stations. I know WSB in Atlanta (home of Limpdick, Herman Un-Abel, HaNutty, Michael Savage Weiner and other haters) makes a killing on UGA football (and probably takes a loss on some of the haters they broadcast). If we could separate WSB from the UGA football broadcasts... they're done.
