If Wendy Davis wins it will drive a stake in the heart of the GOP

Make no mistake, the future of the GOP lives or dies by Texas. Many have stated Wendy can't win, but I do not believe this. However, it is going to take a considerable amount of campaign funds. I thought I'd pass on the fundraising email I got today from her finance director:

A recent public poll shows Greg Abbott’s lead in the single-digits.

It’s great to see polls like this. But as Wendy’s finance director, there’s one number I’m focused on right now: $200,000.

That’s how much we need to raise this month to hit our goal. Can you contribute $5 right now to help?

It’s my job to make sure we stay on track, week after week, month after month, to build a grassroots campaign that can propel Wendy to victory. If we work together, we can make that happen.

This campaign is about all of us. If we hit our grassroots goal, we can keep fighting. We can give Wendy the resources she needs to get her message out to Texas. But we only have until the end of November to hit this goal.

You can help us get there. Give $5 or more today.

Thanks so much for being a part of this effort -- Wendy and our whole team sincerely appreciate it.

Texas is now the only majority-minority red state in the union and the demographics are changing faster than any other state. It's only a matter of time before Texas goes blue just like our neighbor, New Mexico did. When Texas goes blue the GOP will never be able to make the electoral college math work and they will never survive as a regional party.

I want that party shrunk to grover norquist standards. So small you can drown it in the bathtub. That would be such sweet justice!

The reason why the GOP hasn't already gone the way of the Whigs is because the Democratic Party flushed the bigots back in the 60's and were welcomed with open arms into the fold of the GOP. The times still are a changin'. Republican strategists and even Ted Cruz admits that the Texas GOP's days are numbered unless they radically change their party's position on immigration. If you remove bigotry from the GOP, the GOP ceases to exist. If the GOP doesn't remove bigotry they cease to exist. Either way the outcome is the same.

11. Hey, as long as it somehow routes back to the "cease to exist" part.

I'm sorry to be a hard-ass, but just observing the way they've utterly putrefied in the last two or three decades and just how nauseating it's become, I swear - sometimes I'm just disgusted! Uh - I take that back. NO "sometimes" about it! If they can't help, I think they should get OUT OF THE WAY. And we need to do a lot more to help them comply with that.

7. The GOP lives and dies on Dem voter turnout, especially in Texas statewide races.

That's why the Republicans placed new restrictions on voting, to shave a few points and prevent their quick demise.

We all know the Dems can win in Texas, as can women, just ask Ann Richards.

The current big hurdle is getting voters properly equipped to overcome the new Republican voting impediments. This should be an ongoing door-to-door precinct-based campaign from now until complete. That takes party organization, and a candidate like Wendy can spearhead a lot of voter registration and qualification.

Perhaps we need a new political tool, "voter qualification drives," to adapt to the new Republican voter obstructions in Texas and elsewhere.
