(9,766 posts)Doubt that would fit into the recently reduced calorie requirements here in the US.
Does look good though...

(14,337 posts)The cafeteria staff themselves made Rice with Black Beans, Salad, and served Oranges, Bananas, or real treat, fresh PINEAPPLE for dessert. Egg and cheese (breatfast) or Bean (lunch) Burritos with sides of RAW veggies and fresh fruit. When they made their own from scratch Cuban Sandwiches, the kids, and TEACHERS, lined up for that one. Staff had to put in their orders early for that one. While the kids refused to eat COOKED veggies, they loved the RAW ones (carrots, celery, and even raw broccoli).
The typical school lunch of burgers, fries, chicken nuggets, pizza, went into the garbage. These kids wanted to eat what their parents served them at home, which was none of the above.

(6,234 posts)For MANY kids this is the only food they will have that day. Not once, or even once in a while, but basically every day. That's their breakfast, lunch, and savory dinner. Nor am I talking here about some handful of kids. No, this number is certainly in the millions.
We are losing the fight to provide even this much because we cannot help these kids without helping their parents, and neither party wants to do that.
There demographic that rarely gets mentioned here or on the news. We talk about seniors, and cry crocodile tears over children, but we rarely talk about the working younger folks. The generation who inherited a 15 trillion debt, NAFTA and free trade, unaffordable healthcare, a collapsing infrastructure, college costs in the stratosphere, and you name it its bad. They inherited the smoking wreckage of an empire and the bill for the cleanup.
That, and now they are now also expected to come up with some extra cash for their Obamacare bill, because their seniors want that money from them as well. True to tradition, the young folks get screwed so the older generations can profit. Under Obama the affluent just got permanent cuts to their income and capital gains tax rates, because fuck the kids and the infrastructure and the debt, granny wants a new Lexus and both parties want to make sure she gets it.
