CBS correspondent Lara Logan has been ordered to take a leave of absence after an internal review found her discredited "60 Minutes" segment on the Benghazi consulate attack was poorly vetted, the network said in a memo to staff.
The network also asked Logan's producer, Max McClellan, to take a leave of absence. CBS did not specify a length for the leaves.
"As Executive Producer, I am responsible for what gets on the air," CBS' Jeff Fager said in the memo. "I pride myself in catching almost everything, but this deception got through and it shouldnt have."
Logan has already publicly apologized for the October story, which featured an interview with security contractor Dylan Davies, who claimed he witnessed the 2012 raid that left four Americans dead.

(30,439 posts)Ortiz also wrote that Logans October 2012 foreign policy speech, in which she spoke of the need for revenge for the Benghazi attack, was also problematic. From a CBS News Standards perspective, there is a conflict in taking a public position on the governments handling of Benghazi and Al Qaeda, while continuing to report on the story, Ortiz wrote.

(1,012 posts)As abhorrent as that must have been for her, I wonder if her assault in Tahrir Square was on her mind when she made that speech.

And what does attacking Obama for Benghazi have to do with being pissed at the Muslims who attacked her in Tahrir Square?

(81,338 posts)It was previously still a pretty good solid credible enterprise. Yes, it took some hits. But this is a HUGE black eye. And it's all Goldilocks' fault.

(20,166 posts)They hardly ever have to encounter any of us unwashed masses directly. They live their hermetically sealed lives and think they have us all figured out based on the volumes of demographic data they compile on us and analyze.
I think that's why the elites were so taken off guard by Occupy Wall Street. Their initial response was either no response at all or mockery (e.g., Erin Burnett's "Seriously?!" commentary), assuming it was just some flaky fringe thing that would dissipate quickly like a puff of marijuana smoke. They were completely unprepared for the wider ripple effect OWS began to have.

It seems crazy that they haven't realized after all the idiots who have been caught in a lie or on an open mic or smart phone camera or people who can do research. How long did it take for CBS to produce the segment of lies and for people with Internet access to debunk the lies?

There's lessons there.

(12,233 posts)that isn't corporately or state owned is the reason why we don't have a President McCain or VP Palin or Pres Romeny and his RW toolbag Paul Ryan.
There is a reason that the PTB have yet to take away social security for "shared sacrifice". There's a reason that Occupy was able to set up shop for so long and still continue work by buying back debt and taking on community issues, and that it resonated so much with the country, was an outlet of real anger - not TeaParty BS that popped up, and changes the conversation from national debt to the inequalities facing so many Americans.
There is a reason Walmart has to run a positive PR commercial spin about their company and the supposedly "happy" Walmart workers. You know their manner of treating workers and vast wealth inequality and "slave made" products are becoming a nightmare for them because they have to buy ad space to toot their own horn on how wonderful they are. That's not cheap to buy that space for promotion on their business model over advertising sale specials. I only wish that people weren't so stupid to be camping in Best Buy parking lots and know that others won't be lining up to trample one another over 6 discounted Xbox's that the store advertised. It's really quite remarkable that people are willing to do this for a bunch of inanimate objects. And many of us know that Black Friday discounts aren't all that good anyway. Clothing is marked up to full price and the "sale" price is more than you will pay on any other day of the year or special sale day. I've actually found better prices on these items 2 or 3 wks later... And with the Internet, I don't have to stand outside in the cold or rain or rummage thru piles of disturbed items with a crowd of people all around me; I can purchase many items on the Internet. Most of the companies offer free shipping and I can send the items to various family members without having to buy, wrap, and then ship (which can cost as much as the present). It bothers me that so many still are sheeple's enough to line up along the merchants ad scheme. Or believe there's a war in Xmas.
