This a.m. Steve Doocy is calling Obamacare the Affordable Care Act. Once he even began saying "Obamacare" but caught himself in the middle of the first syllable and changed it to "The Affordable Care Act."
Obviously there has been a memo countermanding the memo of several years ago based on Frank Luntz's recommendation to demonized the ACA as "Obamacare."
Now Fox and the conservatives don't want a successful and popular program labeled as Obamacare, fearing it will go down in history with Obama's name on it. It would be like calling "Social Security" the "Roosevelt Security Act," giving more popularity to democrats for decades.
Ironically "Obamacare" will now stick due to the conservatives who tried to repeal it and will help Obama in particular and the Democratic brand in general for a long, long time.
Thanks Fox News!!!! Thanks Frank Luntz!!!

But now it's Obamacare

(8,492 posts)A month or so ago, I had some RWNJ get on my case for calling it the 'ACA'. He claimed I called it that because I was ashamed of Pres. Obama. He didn't believe me when I told him that the Affordable Care Act was what it was actually called.

(81,440 posts)This is quite telling. And with steve dipshit on Pox Noise correcting himself? He's such a dim bulb he'd be the logical choice to give the game away anyway. CLEARLY some memo went out about this. Don't you DARE help add luster to the name "Obama"! This damn thing's starting to work, unfortunately. Let's back off that PRONTO! It cannot (!), must not (!) be connected to "Obummer"! We don't want to give him another win, curse him!!!

(19,359 posts)"The Affordable Care Act" was even mentioned was at the top of the hour when Doocy was asking, laughably, if the new budget deal in Congress was a distraction from the problems of "The Affordable Care Act."
One mention in an entire hour of Fox & Friends????? That's also a record!!
To be honest, Bill Hemmer called it "Obamacare" in a promo for his upcoming segment at about 8:45. It will be interesting to see if he's read the memo by the time his segment begins.

(182,868 posts)That's the graphic while they are spewing their nonsense. They may be weening the audience off the title but as I and many others here have stated this was a huge mistake by them establishing it as his program. HUGE mistake.

(19,359 posts)With the shift.
On Hemmer's segment, he's the only one to call it "Obamacare," but no one else is calling it anything. AND it is curiously absent in terms of coverage.

(182,868 posts)An old sales trick - present your "product" 16 times and the likelihood of a sale rises dramatically. Fox uses this to establish their memes and also uses it to shift to new ones.

(3,168 posts)I only watch it while I'm flipping channels, so I just see bits and pieces. Back in November, it didn't matter what time of day or what show was on, they were always talking about Obamacare
it was like a non-stop onslaught. But now, it seems like they barely mention it at all! That is a sure sign of its success! They will NEVER say anything good about it, but they will ignore it. That is, until it becomes a huge success and they start taking credit for it.
I'm not sure that will work, though. They have spent so much time and energy on demonizing Obamacare that it's going to be virtually impossible to erase that from the public consciousness. Three years of non-stop demonizing, plus all the votes in the House to repeal the law. There's an endless stream of video and news stories documenting their hatred of the law. Even with media complicity, it's not going to vanish!

(27,632 posts)I've noticed over the years that all of the conservative talking heads start using specific words or phrases like this all at once. This is not a coincidence. Their strings are obviously being pulled, but by whom specifically? They could be following one another's example, but I don't think that is the case because it always happens so distinctly.
