Progressives are not the only ones disgusted by the ludicrous military spending in the Ryan-Murray budget deal. Yesterday Rick Santelli whose outburst over government assistance to homeowners is alleged to have started the Tea Party hosted David Stockman, the former Office of Management and Budget Director for the Reagan Administration.
In a rant that went viral on conservative media Stockman railed against so-called deficit hawks like Paul Ryan promoting massive defense spending.
STOCKMAN: Well first lets be clear, its a joke and a betrayal. Its the final surrender of the House Republican Leadership to beltway politics and to kicking the can and ignoring this budget monster that is heading down the road Lets look at what theyve done.
Defense sequester is $600 billion of outlays, we can easily live with that. Prior to the Bush wars and invasions we had $400 billion in defense spending in todays real dollars. Fifty percent more and they cant live with it?
Do we have any more industrial state enemies in the world? No.
Are there greater threats in the world? No.
Have we been fired as the worlds policeman? Yes.
So why cant they allow the defense sequester to happen? They should.
Even conservatives, Reagan Administration alumni no less, are fed up with shoveling taxpayer money into the war economy at this point. Stockman went on to call for the Tea Party to primary any Republican who votes for the Ryan-Murray budget.

(3,220 posts)We're making planes, tanks, and vehicles and then just dumping them right after they're made. The point isn't to boost defensive capabilities - the point is to get defense execs rich with government money.
Who are the real parasites, Repukes?

(140 posts)Founders, vis-a-vis the Constitution, was to not have a standing army. The states were to call up their National Guard to repel an invasion.
Now, we have UNCONSTITUTIONAL military bases all over the world.
Close them all and mind our own business.
