I've got health care after ten years without....
Thanks to the ACA, Obamacare my wife and I have health care starting January first after being without for ten years. Fortunately we haven't had any serious medical issues in that time. I don't know what we would have done.
Unfortunately because of the criminal Florida governor and the fascist republican controlled Florida legislature there is no competitive exchange set up here. There were two health insurance company options and one really wasn't because they only operate in south and central FL. So Blue Cross and Blue Shield was it. In fact it is the ONLY company offering coverage for the ACA as far as I could tell. I had 22 gold plan options from BCBSFL. The silver plans were really not that good for my requirements. However with the subsidy my gold plan coverage is costing me $450/month. It will probably be even less once I do my taxes for 2013 as I will probably report less earnings than what I told the ACA navigator on the phone.
Insurance would have been over $12k for us without ACA, that's 12 thousand per year. A reason why I never bought it also was because pre-existing conditions. At our ages everything is pre existing. Plus they could drop you anytime they wanted. The coverage, deductibles, copays, etc., aren't too bad. I'm self employed so if we can't have single payer this helps a lot.
