A lovely story about student support for a gay vice principal.

Eastside Catholic High School is just east of Seattle, in Sammamish, WA. The vice principle, "Mr. Zmuda," just resigned his position because he assumed he was about to be fired. See, he just got married to a man. This is against the principles of the Catholic Church, and a school rule.

The students, however, decided not to accept the rule. They have organized a protest, boycotting classes, and are fighting to have the rule changed. They love Mr. Zmuda, and can't imagine how being gay could be a problem.

The school hasn't actually said they planned to fire him, and everyone appears to feel bad about having to uphold a rule they don't really believe in. No one is sure what will happen, but they are sure that this man is loved, and they want him with them.

I guess I just wanted to share a story that touched me, first the love the kids have for an openly gay friend and administrator, and second for what is an escalating rate of change among even places like a Catholic high school. They may go kicking and screaming, but I do believe that we are slouching toward equality.

And Phil can put THAT in his duck call and blow it.

I'm amazed at how quickly the dominoes have fallen. And overjoyed.

Ah the gay agenda, praise Jesus!

Some of us would like to see, but we will get there.

Kudos to the children. They are our future.

I wonder what we can do to support it. I have no high schoolers any more but I want to give every one of them a cup of cocoa and a warm scarf in the snow today.

I was so happy to see all of those kids out there, it was such a moving demonstration...lovely is the perfect description. Hope.

I watched it on both KING 5 and KOMO 4.

Thank you for posting about this, it is a bright spot on a day of rampant, nasty social commentary.

I can't imagine how anyone could deny people the exact kind of happiness that they idealize in others.
